Hi. My husband and I rented a condo on St. Thomas for our upcoming vacation in March. Are there any restrictions at the airport to bring food (ie. meats & vegetables) into St. Thomas? Can the frozen meat/veggies be "carried-on" in the plane or does it need to be checked in as baggage? Does anyone have experience they can share? Thanks so much!
i always bring a polar bear cooler with frozen meats I like the quality I can get here I always check mine.
What waterguy said! I have checked an extreme cooler that was secured with duct tape and packed very tight and used techni-ice to keep things cold. The normal weight and size restriction apply. No ice is permitted. Airline rules on dry ice vary, some allow, some charge a fee, some do not allow.
You can carry-on frozen food but no frozen liquids, ice or dry ice.
Cheers, RickG
Does anyone know if there are restrictions in bringing frozen meats from Canada into the US VI?
We have gone to the islands many times over the years. We have travelled with food and without food. Without food is better although the rolling cooler was very useful for our trips to the beaches. The years we have gone down with bringing foods was generally when we went without kids. But there isn't much that you can not get down there and the prices aren't all that bad especially when you weigh it to the pain in the butt factor of dragging all kinds of food along with your luggage.
