Arrived St. Thomas via Spirit Airlines without a hitch. My friend since fourth grade was to arrive 1 ½ hours later, so I stayed at the airport to wait for her. Mind you, we’ve kept in touch over the years, but I haven’t seen her in 21 years. This was going to be interesting…but all was well, as she saw me first (I think I got a little distracted drinking pina coladas at the airport bar) and we hugged and by golly, she looked the same and we were so excited about visiting St. Thomas for the first time and could only imagine the adventure that lay ahead. Went to Budget to rent a car for the week, ended up with a Toyota Echo for $228. The only problem was that I was scared to drive on the left so my buddy says she will drive. Whew! We made it to the condo after a couple of wrong turns, but it only let us see more of the island. We had a studio reserved at Sapphire Village (above Sapphire Beach Resort) and the view was breathtaking!! Our condo was great, clean and supplied with two ice- cold Pepsi’s and a bottle of Cruzan’s pineapple rum. Yummyola! Well, we were a bit tired and needed to cool off, so we headed to the pool and chatted endlessly. Decided to head into Red Hook for dinner at Duffy’s. What a crazy place or maybe it was that particular night but there was a table of twenty somethings just screaming their heads off and having a good time. We were chillin’ mon and the ribs and chicken wings (hot) were good. It was at Duffy’s we realized that when you order a cocktail, it’s not like at home. Heavy hands make for some strong stuff and we were just kickin’ back and getting right into the groove. OK, now I’m thinking, y’all must think I’m kinda corny but what can you say about two almost-50 year old and previously wild women all on their own? We were just thrilled to be on vacation and looked forward to whatever might happen. We grabbed a few things at Marina Market for the condo and headed back and fell blissfully asleep after a long day of traveling and heat. Oh, did I mention that it was about 90 degrees with 90 percent humidity and no wind? The AC was cranked my friends. That was a lot to say for just one day, so hopefully I will continue with my report and try to be more brief.

First question I have is what made the two of you get together after all those years? And then all the way to st. Thomas!!
I have friends that I haven't seen in a really long time....but never would I be that brave to do something like that!

Great trip report...keep em coming!

sitter,

I went on a cruise with a group of old friends. We hadn't spent time together in twenty years and were trapped on a ship for a week! Everyone had a great time and we'd do it again in a heartbeat. Of course unlike Boise, I didn't have to share a room with any of them as we all brought our spouses. I highly recommend reconnecting with childhood friends!

Wow, what a cool story. Bosie, I am so glad to read about your get together in the VI! What a nice way to spend a vacation away. How did you like Sapphire Village? Did you rent thru the Sapphire Village/Antilles Resorts deal or did you go with an owner there?

Do you think the two of you will vacation together agian?

Thanks for sharing. This report was heartwarming!

In reply to sitter: I don't really know what possessed me, I initially planned on going by myself, but knew that my friend hadn't vacationed in awhile. I then started getting a little nervous about going solo. I honestly didn't think she would go, but as luck would have it, she did! and boy am I glad.

Bluwater: We rented directly from the owner in Sapphire Village and the condo was great, we were in the St. Kitts building high up on the hill. There were some long term renters there so I saw the same folks daily and that felt secure and friendly.

Right now (and I may add to this later ) if I were to return to the USVI, I might try to stay on St. John and yes, I would vacation with my friend again.

I should also add a big thanks to this forum and all of you for providing valuable information! This forum is great and we can all relive our trips here. More later...
