Wow! What reviews. We are leaving for STT on 7/31 and what I have read maybe I should of booked in STJ? I can't change now. We are going to be there for 12 days. Did I make a major mistake. Any tips?

Hi red.

Since nobody here knows you how can anyone here know whether or not you'll be happy on STT, STJ or anywhere else? That said, both islands have lots of repeat visitors and they are only a half hour ferry ride apart so you can spend time on whichever island you choose. If you search this board you'll find many posts where folks express a preference for one over another but since you don't know anything about the posters there's no way for you to know if you'll agree with their perspective. You'll just have to check it out for yourself. I'm sure you'll have a great time visiting the islands as there is something here for everyone!

How can a trip to either of the islands be a mistake??? you'll be thrilled to just be there, while the rest of us sit here wishing!

Hi red,

Honk horn often, drive on the left. 😉
Start conversations with, "Good (morning, afternoon, evening)"
Other than the beach, don't wear swimsuits in public.
Read past posts and trip reports, and ask questions.
Don't be in a hurry to get through town when one or more boats are in.
Get a map of the island and some informational brochures and read about the island before you go. Maybe do some pre-planning for places you would like to go.

What kinds of things do you like to do? I would have enjoyed hitting some of the hiking trails and didn't even think about there being a museum on the island. There is a LOT more to see in Charlotte Amalie that we missed. Mountain Top is the home of the banana daiquiri and it would have been fun to enjoy one of those there. I wanted to do a lot more geocaching than I did. 😛 One of the things we talked about doing was taking a picnic dinner to the top of the hill (Paradise Point) the cable car runs up and watch a sunset. I would have liked to snorkeled Secret Cove/Harbor (which one is it?) and would have liked to find a good spot to do a night snorkel. A night SCUBA dive would have been fun. We did quite a bit on our trip https://www.vinow.com/wwwtalk/read.php?4,59232 (link to my trip report) and could have done more if everybody had gotten up early and done a lot more running. But, hey! This was vacation and we took it easy. 🙂 My girls would have liked more time to shop; that would have to be a trip for them to take while I did some geocaching! There are only so many hours in the day, so many days to the trip and so much money. 😀 Just leaves more to do on the next trip.

John

Edited to add: P.S. We did a day trip to St. John. We got to see a bit of the island, but could easily have spent more time there. Would have liked to see more of Cruz Bay. Another trip. Another trip.
