We are coming down for a week in November and need a rental car for St Thomas. I know this has been beat to death but I usually don't read about rental cars as we usually stay on boat. Which company? Any deals out there? I don't care about the car barge to St John thing as we will likely spend a day over there but we will just get a cab if we want to leave the Cruz Bay area.
Thanks,
Jay

I rented a mid-sized car from Budget at $230 for a week last May. I booked the rate online, about 2-3 months in advance. The best thing about the rental (besides the working air-conditioner) was the coupon book that they provide when you pick-up the car. The deals ranged from discounts on food, all the way to 2 for 1 deals for all day sailing trips. Using the coupons saved us as much money as we spent on the rental car.

Jay,
We rented thru Hotwire.com which always gives you Avis at STT (so says Bluwater) for $204/week (that included taxes/fees etc) for a midsize.

I'm so envious!!

aren't you guys actually moving down there sometime soon???

Mountaineer Girl,
Yes we are still working on the move. Deb's job offer has turned into classic island time but it is still moving along. This trip is a pre-move visit/vacation. We aren't traveling with a large pack of rum swillin' boaters this time just the two of us, although there will several people on island that we know so I am sure will manage a happy hour or two. I went ahead and booked a car from Hertz via Travelocity. It wasn't a bad deal. $244 for a mid size.
Keep you posted
Jay
