What is the beach surface like on Bolongo Bay beach? From the vinow.com St. Thomas Beach Guide it sounds like it is mostly sand with some small pebbles. However, I've seen some pictures that show mostly small pebbles. Also, I've heard mention the sea urchins and jellyfish are abundant in this area. Can anyone clarify the beach conditions from personal experience? I am considering the Bolongo Bay Beach Resort but want a beach that my children can enjoy without having to wear water shoes and be on the constant lookout for jellyfish. Our trip is from July 28 - August 4th.
Thanks in advance!
Jellies are an occasional event in some bays. They are more abundant in July and August, but usually are not of the varieties people most fear (Portugese Man-O-War and box jellies.) Moon jellies are more prevalent here and much less toxic. I have never heard Bolongo being a jelly bay, but the dive shop there would be much more knowledgable. A rash guard is a good investment against the number one danger here- the sun, as well as other annoyances.;) Bolongo beach has some shoaly spots, but is a very family friendly area!
