Has anyone stayed at either Bolongo Bay or Bluebeards Beach Club? What do you know about either of them? Is one better than the other?
Planning a first trip to St Thomas and have seen both of these websites, but not sure which, if either would be what we are looking for. The price seems maybe too reasonable.

Hi Louise,

I can tell you a bit about Bolongo. Maybe one of the owners from Bluebeards can fill you in on that property.

Bolongo is a nice, moderately priced, family owned and operated resort that is right on the beach. It is not a five-star resort by any means, but I enjoyed my stay there. The beach has a few rocky sections and is maybe not one of the nicest on the island, but it isn't all that bad either. As a base of operations for a stay on STT, Bolongo is a good place.....especially if you don't want to spend a lot. It has a decent restaurant and an open-air bar/restaurant that is right on the beach. We usually try to hit that latter on a regular basis for lunch when we are on-island. The resort is out east and is right next to the Watergate condo's and MIM's restaurant.

Louise, I had the same concerns as you regarding price and I totally agree with Schultz. It is a very laid back, unassuming place. Although we did not have the "total meal plan" we did eat there often and we very pleased with our meals. It was a good location (with a car), away from the "maddening crowd" but still close enough to visit. We did have dinner one night at Bluebeards--it was just OK. If you stay at Bolongo make sure to take the sailing cruise. We went on the evening sail as well as the full day sail and it was probably the best part of our week there. The crew members make you laugh and truly enjoy your time spent on board. If you are looking for action-this may not be the place for you. If you are looking to kick back and relax at a very reasonable price, I think you will be happy there. The pool is extremely small but we are beach people. I did a lot of research on our trip before deciding on Bolongo, and I was not disappointed. It was right for us. Have a great trip.

So would you recommend not staying at Bluebeards Beach Club? I'm scheduled to stay there next week and your note has me concerned.

Thanks

Hi There,

I believe the comment about Bluebeards most likely was a reference to dinner up at Bluebeard's Castle and not the beach club.

Yes, my OK comment related to the dinner/restaurant --not the overall facility. I was there at night and cannot really comment on the place. I am sure it is very nice. Go have a good time!!
