*We are scheduled on a Princess cruise Mar14-21 and wanted to try the underwater BOB on St. Thomas. When we received the shore excursion book, it showed it had been canceled. A call to Princess provided no information on why it had been cancelled. I've sent several e-mails to the "BOB" website and none have been returned. Anyone know if this is still a valid trip? If yes, any ideas how to contact them to make a reservation? Any help would be great!! Leslie Garner [email protected]

Hmm, I think you can only book the BOB through the cruise lines. Haven't heard anything about it being stopped...

Leslie ...

Often excursions change at the last minute. The deal that they had with Princess might have fallen through, people that run it went on vacation for a week, etc ...
When you get on the boat you will be able to confirm which excursions are available for booking.

What would be helpful to know is if I can book it separately from the ship. It seems like it should be possible (for people staying on Tortola as an example.) Any ideas how I can do this? Otherwise, I feel like I should schedule another excursion on Tortola so I don't miss out on doing something else. Any ideas??? We would really like to do this so any ideas would be really appreciated!!

Hello Leslie,

You can book directly however BOB is pretty much a cruise ship excursion so often times the cruise ships fill up all the spots leaving direct reservations impossiable because there is no space to put you in. There is a contact form on their web site, is that what you tried when you said no response via e-mail??

For those of you who like snorkeling but are not certified divers and not interested in taking courses to become certified there is a middle ground option, actually several! Super Snorkeling, available on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John, enables people with the use of a mask and breathing tube attached to a tank of air floating on the surface to explore shallow coral reefs and marine environments. Sea Trekkin, available at Coral World on St. Thomas, allows people to explore the ocean floor along a trail by using an air helmet. The use of breathing observation bubble scooters is available on St. Thomas. An underwater scooter with a breathing and observation bubble attached to an air supply enables you to coast along and observe the underwater scenery. Prices for Super Snorkeling are around $50-$60. Sea Trekkin is around $50.

I had seen a BOB (Breathing Observation Bubble) at the Dive Shop at Secret Harbor and didn't know until yesterday, when I picked up a What to Do Booklet at the Visitors Center on St.Thomas, what in the heck it was.

The phone number for BOB Underwater Adventure at Havensight Crusie Ship Dock is 340-715-0348. It is advertised in this recent What To Do Booklet (pages 127/128 (which has discount coupons by the way). I called the number and learned the following: they are booked solid for the next two weeks and you could leave your name and number to be put on the cancellation list.

So they seem to still be in business and I'd bet you could make a reservation for March.
I don't see a website listing for them.

Looks like a great wonderful fun way to explore underwater actual without any actual scuba diving experience.

my husband and i are coming to st thomas in 2 weeks. We've never been. We are
staying at the Secret Harbor Beach Resort. Is snorkeling going to be as good as I've read there? How much to rent snorkel gear?? Also, do you recommend renting a car to go to Trunk Bay?

Hello Wendy,

The snorkeling at Secret Harbor is good. Snorkeling gear - if you are going to be snorkeling at multiple places on St. Thomas - St. John you may want to buy a mask and snorkel back home (an inexpensive but good set) and bring it with you. Renting of snorkel gear is usually around $7 with a refundable deposit.

If you want to go to St. John - Trunk Bay you can take the people ferry and then take a taxi to Trunk Bay. If you have a rental car on St. Thomas you can take the car barge and use the same car on St. John. If you want to explore St. John and have no rental car on St. Thomas you might rent a car for the day on St. John and drive around - taking the people ferry to get back and forth between St. Thomas and St. John. Not sure what you were considering doing - but these are some options. You will want to make a car reservation.

Have a great time.

I did seaTrekkin' at Coral World on my trip to St. Thomas. A great way for a non-swimmer to experience being underwater . A cute pufferfish and a friendly barracuda (really!) kept our party of six company for the whole time we were in the water. It was a little pricey, but it was one of the highlights of the trip. Weather you do sea trekkin' or not, be sure and see Coral World, its an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.
