*interested in taking boat from puerto rico to a nearby us virgin island- maybe next Monday or Tues? (18th/19th) suggestions? Thanks very much!

I don't think you could do a "day trip" if that's what you mean. I'm sure Islander will have better information than I have, but I was on STJ during hurricane Marilyn and 3 days later the Red Cross came in with boats to take us to Puerto Rico so we could fly home - it was a 4 hour trip in open water. It definately is not like renting a boat from the USVI's to the BVI's. Hope this helps. Maybe you meant staying in Puerto Rico for a few days and then spending the rest of your vacation in the USVI's - if so I would fly - it's only a 25 min flight.

Best bet is www.seaborneairlines.com they go from downtown San Juan to downtown Charlotte Amalie St Thomas. Basically your only choice. Or www.capeair.com but for that you have to go to the airport.
