Need guidance on boating around both US and British Virgin Islands. We are Pacific Northwesterners who own a 24' cuddy and cruise the San Juan Islands, Gulf Islands & Vancouver Island (Canadian), and Puget Sound so are experienced island hoppers.
We are planning an early September trip for 2 weeks and would like to explore the islands from the water during part of that visit.
1. Is it risky to count on boating during hurricane season (reserving a boat for a specific time period)?
2. I know Virgin Gorda is not to be missed. Any other recommendations?
3. Things to be avoided?
4. Charter company recommendations?
5. Rules for crossing between US and British waters? (will have passports)?
6. Other advice, tips?
Many thanks!
Are you talking a day charter or a term (week) charter? When you go into the BVI you have to clear customs. They won't let you take a boat out if a hurricane is imminent! 😉
Hello,
Boating around St. Thomas is nice, around St. John is lovely - checking out some unpopulated cays in the area is lots of fun and checking out Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke and other BVI islands is also worth it.
Not sure on whether its term or day charter you are looking for????
