*Is it possible to rent a motorboat - 15-20 ft for a day or half day? We wanted to cruise over to Buck Island and do some sightseeing on our own.
What is an approximate cost and who would I contact?
Thank you

Hello Phyllis,

You mentioned Buck Island so I am assuming you are visiting St. Croix (although there is a small Buck Island off of St. Thomas).

I have tried numerous times (contacted various charters, yacht club ect.) on St. Croix and not found any bare motorboat day rentals or charters that offer without captain options. Last time I checked was late last year so unless something has changed in the last couple months then you will need to take a charter with captain to Buck Island.

On St. Thomas there are boat rentals.

Good morning,
I don't know the name of the place but there used to be a little power boat rental at Sapphire dock. Call 775-6100 and ask to speak to the dockmaster. I just placed a call to Nauti Nymph as they used to rent without Captains also. When they call back I will let y ou know.

All:

I was at the Nauti Nymph on April 20th. They still rent power boats if you are qualified. I guess they do a check out sail first. Price is about $300. for the day. Another posibility is at the Sapphire Beach Marina. I saw a flyer there with a $99. (half day) special. We viewed the craft and determined that it was a bit too small for us. However we opted for a larger boat at $135. (half day). You do need experience. They do a check out sail first. Note: All rentals require you to top off the fuel tank upon returning.

By the way...the Nauti Nymph has very good charts that they lend you.

Just to confirm, Nauti Nymph just called back - yes but you do have to convince them you know how to drive the boat.

Hello Everyone,

I guess the question that needs to be asked of Phyllis is - What island are you visiting?
You asked about visiting Buck Island so I assumed you were visiting St. Croix as the more popular Buck Island is the marine reserve off of St. Croix. (There is a little Buck Island off of St. Thomas as well that many cruise ship excursions go to which may be where you actually intend to go??).

So my answer of no bareboat motorboats was for St. Croix.

All other replies and suggestions are for St. Thomas.
