Hi, we are thinking of staying at this hotel. Does anyone know how far it is to the nearest beach? Do they provide free transportation to and from the beach? If they don't, can we walk, take a bus, or safari taxi, and how much should we expect to pay for the latter two? also -- we've seen a lot of negative reviews of this hotel re: cleanliness and courtesy-- is that likely to be the case at the present time?

They have a shuttle to their beach, which is about 15 minutes away. A nice one atthat. The nearest may be about 10 minutes by car.

Actually, Ronnie, I think the shuttle to the Beach Club is just one day only per week, for the beach party that's held there on Tuesdays. I believe they also have a shuttle that goes to Magen's Bay at least once a week and perhaps more.

Of course, I recommend renting a car and checking out several of the beaches on the island.

I haven't stayed there so I cannot respond to the questions about resort cleanliness and congeniality of the staff, but I will say there are two wonderful restaurants there, Banana Tree Grille and Room with a View.

Moonchilde,

My husband and I stayed at Bluebeard's Dec. 26-Jan. 1 courtesy of my mother-in-law, who gave us our week there through her timeshare.

I, like you, read alot of negative reviews on this hotel and worried myself to death about it. I am here to tell you that I worried for nothing. We didn't have a big suite since we booked so late but our room was clean and everything was functioning properly. We had a balcony with a view of CA. It was neat to watch the cruise ships come in and out of port.

One disadvantage is that the hotel is on a massive hill, which most things are. A rental car is highly recommended. There is no beach nearby either. They are all pretty much driving distance away. My husband and I rented a car so we never had to deal with the taxis but I can tell you that I saw them on the property regularly.

The staff was nice. They weren't extrememly outgoing but they didn't make us feel like outsiders. We had to call for maintenance (little problem) once while we were there and they arrived within minutes of my call.

All-in-all I would go back there again. I do think that our next visit will be to St. John. We didn't get over there to see the island. Luckily, my mother-in-law has timeshares there too.
