*We are coming to St. Thomas on a timeshare exchange. Is Bluebeard's Castle condos nice or not? I HATE BUGS OF ANY KIND.
How far is it from Charlotte Amalie?
Is is necessary that we rent a car in able to see the whole island?
For a day trip on the water perhaps to another island, what do you recommend?
Crime???
Thanks so much.

Hello Paula,

Is that the timeshare at the Castle itself or the timeshare at Bluebeards Beach property????

I believe she is talking about the Bluebeard's Castle Condo Complex. The places I have seen there are very nice but I haven't stayed there so I won't speak one way or another about them. I'm sure there are plenty of people who own there that watch this board and can provide better information than I could. But I would say that renting a car is very important if you want to explore the island.

We are a timeshare owner through RCI. Has anyone recently stayed at Bluebeards Castle in the condo/timeshare part.
If so, please let me know about your stay and the rooms.
Thanks

I don't know about Bluebeards, but my wife and I honeymooned on St. Thomas and loved our time on the water. We took a day trip to Jost Van Dyke and a sunset cruise around some little island on either the Daydreamer or the Coconut, I forget which one was for which trip. Both boats were from the same company and the Captain's name was Captain Dave. Both trips were great. Enjoy!

If all you plan to do is sleep/shower at Bluebeards Castle then you'll be fine. Its close to Charlotte Amalie and there are some nice parts to it, but its up in the mountains. Not close to the beach at all. My wife and I got suckered to going to a time share presentation there and ended up wasting 1/2 a day there cause they wouldn't let us leave. The restaraunts are OK but a bit pricey. Here are some outdoor shots from there (high bandwidth required)

If you have a chance go to Coki Beach and take a day trip on the Daydreamer or the Coconut. They are moored at Rennissance Grand Beach Resort and its an amazing day. Magens Beach is nice too but its on the North side of the island and required a long cab ride off the beaten path.

Enjoy!

Ok so Bluebeards Castle... the property is fairly nice. The rooms are comfortable but not luxarious (I have been in a couple of the rooms, never stayed there as a visitor :-), but spent a couple nights there while I had guest visiting.) The view is of town, as it is up on a hillside. Room with a View - a bar/restaurant has a great view - nice place for evening desert and drinks. Banana Tree Grill is a great restuarant. The pool is small. Closest beaches are 18-20 minutes away. Charlotte Amalie - well you will be in Charlotte Amalie more or less... but in terms of distance from the center of town - about 5-7 minutes. Renting a car is a great idea!! Day trip - I would recommend St. John, Water Island is also nice if you want very quiet, bring your own picnic atmosphere. Crime - crime exisit in the VI a lot of it is domestic and drug related and confined to particular residential areas.

As for taxi rides between Magens Bay vs. Coki Bay its a difference of about 3 minutes. Takes about 21 minutes to get to Magens Bay from town and about 18 minutes to get to Coki... give or take depending on traffic. The Magens Bay road was recently completely re-done... wouldn't say it was off the beaten path. Both beaches are worth visiting, Magens Bay for relaxing, nice walk along the shore... Coki for snorkeling.
