Just booked a trip for end of June at Bluebeard's Castle. It was a great deal at 7 nights and airfare. The place looks fine on it's website, but wondered if anyone has any first hand knowledge of it? Also would like to know if it's better to rent a car or a scooter to get around in St.Thomas as well as doing some island hopping. Does anyone know fares to get from one island to another? A website perhaps? Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Hello Lozzie,

Bluebeards is a small resort/hotel, nice pool with good view of town, good restaurant on property, close to town. A car is a better bet over a scooter.

You can island hop to Water Island at about $9 round trip, to St. John for $6 round trip or $14 - depending on the ferry you take. $40+ to island hop to the BVI, depends on the island and the ferry. And $60-$100 to go to St. Croix.

The ferry schedules are on this web site at

https://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/interisland_ferry/

and the prices and schedule is listed.

Hi,

We stayed at Bluebeard's Castle last January. A car is a big deal...........you don't want to rely on taxis to get around all the time. Most rooms overlook the harbor area so it was nice to sit there and watch the activity. We have a great picture that we use as a screen saver that was taken of the harbor with a huge rainbow. A regular reminder of our trip.

Bluebeards is about a 20 minute walk to town (Charlotte Amalie). You really need a car on St T as things are far apart, especially if you beach or bar hop.. Taxis charge per person per trip, so can be dear. You can rent automatic right- hand drive cars ( like in the States), but they drive on left side of the road. I lived there four years, and was glad to have a car because of the hills and distance between places. Bluebeards is up a hill, so not near or on a beach. Some resorts that are on a beach are... Sappire, Sugar Bay, Emerald Beach (near the airport) Carib Beach ( also near airport), Renaisance, Bluebeard Beach Resort ( different from B's Castle) Magen's Point (just down the street from Magen's beach), Secret Harbor.
