We are going down for a few days, and really don't want to mess with a car for more than a day or 2. We are thinking of picking up a car when we fly in, drive it for 2 days, (get enough groceries for the week) and then chill out on the beach. Has anyone taken a taxi from the airport to the BBC? Do you remember what the cost was?
Where should one buy groceries?
Thanks
Ginny
Check the posted rates up top. You can get a private taxi from Wheatly Taxi service for $75. The hotel could arrange for you to be picked up and dropped off at the airport.
I would suggest Cost U Less and pick up bulk goods, meats and veggies. Then stop at Food Center on the way to the hotel and fill in with stuff you can't find. Or you can have Grocery Goddesses pickup everything you want and drop them off at the hotel for you so you don't need to pick up a car until you want to go somewhere. They charge cost plus 18% I think.

Here's the link to this site's info on taxis:

The BBC is listed under its old name of Limetree so that would be $9 per person, plus baggage, tip.
My personal recommendations for general shopping are Cost U Less and Plaza Xtra.
Can anybody tell me where to find on a map the "Food Center" or Extra Plaza"? I find a number of references to them on the web, but no addresses or Maps.
Thanks
Food Center is on Rte 32, a 5 minute drive East of Red Hook and Plaza Xtra is located in the Tutu Park Mall on Rte 38. Beween the two, Plaza Xtra is by far the better deal in my opinion!
