Good place to stay if you want a one night stayover(too late for the ferry) when arriving at the airport.. Could be excellent except it is too close to town, airport, and needs some upgrading. Nice beach, but I don't see this as a great final destination. You can stay for less there. That is it's plus.

I just spent 4 days/3 nights there about a month ago. I enjoyed my time there a lot. It is close to the airport (1/4 mile) but the airport seems to pretty much close after dark...lol. You won't have jumbo jets waking you up during the night. Plus, I work as an aircraft mechanic and live near my local airport so the noise never really bothered me anyway.

The restaurant is very good and so is the quiet little beach bar that's attached. Free continental breakfast was pretty good too...had a lot of tropical fruits and juices as well as muffins, cereal, etc.

Every room looks out to Lindberg Bay and is right on the beach. I had a ground floor room and could just hop the railing from my patio and jump right into the bay. From what I saw of STT, I would rate the beach one of the best on the Island. There are no sudden drop offs so you can walk out pretty far into the water.

The rooms could maybe use a litte updating, but I was comfortable enough. The ceiling fan kept the room very nice for sleeping and I hardly used the AC although I was usually out exploring the Island or over on St John during the hottest part of the days. The stone tiled floor throughout also helped keep the room cool.

There's a water sport rental place and dive instructors on site, and a very nice pool with a waterfall that feels very good on your shoulders after a long day. 🙂 Also next to the pool is the bar where every day around lunchtime they feed a small group of iguanas that come around. Very cool to get up close and personal.

The hotel offers a free shuttle into CA every morning around 9:30, but you have to find your own way back. At least that's one trip that's going to save you crazy taxi fares. 🙂

Town didn't seem all that close to me, and the hotel stayed pretty quiet and peaceful.

With the cheaper rates and closeness to the airport I think this place is highly under rated...in my opinion. I'm the type of guy who doesn't need (or can afford) the high class resorts and villas, so the Emerald Beach suited my wife and me just fine. 🙂

I'll probably stay there again!

Thanks Jay and B for the reviews! We're going there in 5 weeks and we're very excited about our first trip to the VI's. I'm like Jay---I don't need too fancy of a room as long as the place isn't a dump and the beach is nice. Some of these resorts charge entirely too much for what you get and BWEB seemed to be a good buy by Caribbean standards. The resort being as close as it is to the beach was another big appeal when finalizing my decision. Thanks again to the both of you for posting....

Jeff

Jeff,

You should also consider the Galleon House downtown. It's a 22 bed/breakfast. It's on Government Hill, surrounded by the historic sites (bluebeard's castle, 99 steps, the grand hotel, hotel 1829, emacipation park, etc...) It's also on the waterfront, around restaurants and across the street from the ferry. The hotel is also next to main street and many restaurants.

If you are looking for a clean place to sleep with just the basics, it's perfect. I was there last week and I would go back. They are on the web and are easy to find on orbitz and cheaptickets. You can expect to pay less then 70/night.

They offer breakfast and that's it, so you will have to find transportation (taxi's are usually at the bottom of the hill on a daily basis, and there is a moped rental down the street)

Have fun!

Emerald Beach is great, it is one of the best beaches on the island. The hotel itself is in good condition, you have to remember that it is in the Caribbean. By Caribbean standards, it is in very good shape. I have stayed at the Ritz-Carlton and found more wrong there than at Emerald Beach. The restaurant is great, they have good special events like the Friday night West Indian Buffet and a Sunday Brunch that is fantastic.
Trust me, they are not that close to town, but they are close enough to save you major money on taxi's. If you were out on the east end of the island, it could cost as much as $15 per person to get into downtown...plus $4 per bag if coming from the airport. So, not only is the room more affordable, but you will save money all around by staying at Emerald Beach.

Thanks for the advice Anna but I've already paid for the Emerald Beach reservations.

And John, thanks for the resort review. I'm very happy with my choice. I understand completely about the Caribbean standards comment. I've been lots of places and you don't always get what you pay for. I think Emerald Beach will do just fine....

Thanks again to you both for the replies!

regards from Texas,
Jeff
