My wife and I are visiting USVI in June. We are in a villa on STJ for 6 nights, then moving to a hotel on STT for our last night. Our flight out is 8:00 am, so we wanted to be closer to the airport the day we leave.

I made a reservation through Hotwire at the Best Western Carib Beach for that last night. I see many of the reviews on trip adviser just rip that particular hotel. It would cost $25 to cancel our reservation, but I am starting to wonder if changing hotels might not be a bad idea.

What do you think? All we will be doing is sleeping there. Since that is our only day in STT, we plan on shopping and visiting STT beaches, so we won't be getting to the hotel until after dinner, and will be checking out at 6:00 in the morning. Since we will be spending so little time there, I wanted to find the least expensive hotel for that last night. Sounds like I did that, now I am wondering if I was being a little too cheap.

Joe

BW Carib will be just fine for what you want. A few hrs. to sleep and be close to the airport. Would not change.

I think for one night it should be fine...for a week, then maybe not. 😉

Joe,
We did the same thing you are going to do ( a week on STJ and 1 night on STT for flight reasons), we stayed at the Best Western Carib and it was fine for the night, like you said it's just a layover before flying home and you are only there to sleep, you will be perfectly fine there! I was a bit concerned after reading negative on TripAdvisor but it ended up being just fine. Now staying a week there.......that would be a whole other topic. I wouldn't change the reservation. Besides depending on when you flight is the next day you can soak up some last minute sun on the beach and then head to the airport. We walked from the hotel to the airport with our rolling luggage and it took about 5 minutes. So very convenient and definately the right move. Enjoy your trip! Jill

We have stayed at the BW Carib Beach and it should be just fine for what you want.

But.....

if you have to be out of the villa early (and who doesn't even on non-turnaround days;doesn't that just piss you off?) and don't want to traipse around STJ with your luggage, you can take the ferry earlier in the day and try to stay at BW Emerald Beach. Considerably more expensive, but nice pool, good tiki bar (but slow if Sam is there), and a very respectable beach. I even enjoy watching the planes taking off-there aren't that many and none late. Friday nights there is a West Indian buffet far better than anything on STJ. Be forewarned though, your room will not be ready for you-so have a suit on or available, have the front desk stow the luggage, go get your complimentary rum punch and extend your beach time.

Slow if Sam is there? What about Island time? Sam was a hoot when I was there a few years back, and I'm glad to see he's still there. 🙂

MLS: don't understand your post at all! IA Joe has obviously already determined that he has to spend the last night on STT to ensure that he gets the early AM flight out from STT which he obviously knows already that he won't be able to get to unless he spends the last night on STT.

To me his plan sounds perfect and will afford he and his wife a most comfortable last night on the islands. Cheers!

we are in a similar situation. we will be staying in st john for one night when we arrive in August, but we are staying at BW Emerald Beach Resort. are emeral beach resort and carib right next to each other? i was kinda confused when looking at them on the map, they seem like they may even be the same place, and the reviews were wishy washy for emerald beach resort. Some liked it some did not. I'm still not sure how late into the day we will be there. we arrive at night (around 815PM) and decided not to head to STJ until the next day. So basically we will just be sleeping there...i think.

They're right next to each other - you will be fine at either one! Cheers,

RevR, Carib Beach and Emerald Beach are both Best Western and they share the same bay, but they are most definitely not interchangeable. For one Emerald Beach is twice as expensive, but offers a reasonable resort feel.
Arriving as late as you are, Carib Beach would probably be my choice. Since they are both Best Westerns, you might be able change reservations without penalty.

We tend to arrive on flights between 3-5 PM. My goal, easily attained the last few years, is to have a swim and a rum punch (complimentary even) before sunset. Carib Beach might be walkable to the airport, Emerald Beach is not particularly with luggage.

IAJoe, as I said Carib Beach is probably fine for you purposes, but as an alternative to visiting beaches and shopping with your luggage, I wanted to make a suggestion for an alternative way to spend your last day.

We have actually decided in general to forego our last day at a STJ villa to spend the last night at Emerald Beach even though we generally have afternoon return flights. It makes for a more relaxed last day, and ends up cheaper too.

Emerald Beach is not perfect, but we like it enough to spend our first and last night there.
