Can anyone give advice on the best way (safe, too) to get from airport to Red Hook? We had set up a private car for $20 PP one way (there are 4 of us) but have decided we need to go a cheaper route. Are there shuttles, how much and do they go regularly from airport to red Hook? Do I need to set up in advance? We go to STJ July 2-13. Thank you!

There is no posted rate for Red Hook, but Sapphire is close. $11pp + luggage charge.

That isn't a bad price for a private transfer. I think you would only save $5 pp for a regular taxi that may make several stops.

And to answer the question about shuttles, there are none. The posted taxi fare airport to Red Hook is indeed $11pp plus any luggage plus tip. The link to the taxi rates is under "St Thomas" top of this page, just scroll down to transportation - taxi rates. $20pp is very reasonable for a private run.

No shuttles and the posted rate on the board at the airport is $15.00 plus $2.00 per bag (unless it has changed since I last looked but that is the rate I always pay)

Pia, the basic $15pp rate is for one person, and the basic for two or more is $11pp. 😀

But do the cabs consider you one person if you're traveling alone but are in a shared cab with multiple stops? If you ride with 8 people, but aren't part of a couple or group, are you paying a solo fare?

Yep - $15.00 and you will always be in a cab with multiple others (they carry 10 people)

That's been my experience - regulated posted fares out the window, they make them work to their advantage every time. That's a lot of money they make for a van ride from STT to Red Hook with 8 or 10 pax paying full fare! 😉

If this is the case then the driver'(s) should be reported to the VI Taxicab Commission (340) 774-3130 as they're responsible for addressing complaints. 😀

Hate to start a wonderful vaca in STT with having to hassle with the driver and then bust him to the Commission - not very friendly! 🙁

Thanks for the advice everyone. Will stay with private transfer, Rachael Brown, you may know her. I found out about her from TA. $20 PP not bad compared to the taxi, with multiple stops. Does Rachael charge extra for luggage anyone know? Do I leave her a tip on top of the $80?

Rachel's number is 340-771-2986 and, no, she doesn't have a website or an email address. 😀
