We'll be staying on St John and would like opinions on the best way to get there from the STT airport. Taxi into Charlotte Amalie and ferry from there or taxi to Red Hook and ferry from there?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The CA ferry is on a limited schedule (all the schedules are under "Quick Links" top right of this page) so it depends on what time you arrive whether you can catch one there or go into Red Hook where they depart on the hour every hour during the day. You can always check with the taxi dispatcher at the airport.

Six of one - half dozen of another. Depends on your timing. Airport to RH is more taxi fare and less ferry fare. Airport to town is less taxi far and more ferry fare.

you'll arrive on STJ at about the same time.

Don't stress. Figure it out when you get to the airport.

Agree with Pamela - it all works out to be about the same. For some reason we usually find ourselves going to over Red Hook. If you don't plan to spend any time on STT other than going to & from the airport, the taxi trip over to Red Hook will let you see a little bit more of STT than going to the CA ferry terminal. Just my 2 cents... have fun!

If your traveling with five or more people. Look into a private water taxi. We used Dohm's Water taxi. They provided a land taxi (which was waiting when our flight arrived) from the airport to the marina and our water taxi left within two minutes of us getting on board. We were off of St. Thomas and in St. John 20 minutes later. No charge for luggage either. While its a little more expensive ($16.00 for the taxi and $25.00 for the water taxi) you can't beat the convenience of it.
