I've been to st. thomas three years ago and of course loved st john. this year we're taking our three kids with also. We are certified foodies, but will temper it for our kids. I love seafood and alfresco dining, fun atmosphere, but great food is most important. I am thinking of Lime Inn, Morgan's Mango, Cafe Wahoo for dinner. For fun we'd like to visit Duffy's Love shack, for casual lunch we'd like to go to shipwreck Landing, Miss Lucy's and Fish trap. Any input to this selection would be appreciated. We're travelling in June.

Thanks,
Cara

Cara -

Just returned yestereday with our 14 and 12 year olds...The 12 year old won't eat "anything" different - hamburgers and chicken fingers is about it for her. By actual count, she had 9 hamburgers in 6 days last week. I think you will find at least one thing for the kids anywhere you go.

Lime Inn and Morgans had burgers (even I thought these two were good when I tried a bite). Also salads and pastas for the slightly more adventurous. Burgers at Cafe Wahoo as well. But, I just can't recommend Wahoo. Food was fine, but the service was awful...spend your vacation dollars elsewhere - it's no better than when it was Pusser's. Dinner at the The Fish Trap was very good, plus they had a good kid's menu - the chicken fingers there were a welcome respite from burgers.

The kids loved Morgan's Mango for the carribean atmosphere and the frozen drinks. They also loved Shipwreck Landing - the virgin raspberry mango colada got rave reviews. We didn't get to Miss Lucy's this trip.

Breakfast at Chilly Billy's was a big hit too. The Banana Tree Grill had kid friendly food on the menu too, but we didn't eat there.

We also had pizza and calzones delivered from the Rolling Pin one night. Not bad.

Bob-

thanks for your response. My two older boys are truly adventuresome eaters (thai, chinese, tuna, salmon, mexican, cajun and more) and my 7 year old does like hamburgers- but also loves fish, so we will be fine at almost any restaurant in terms of kids finding something. We'll probably skip asolare and paradisio, however. I am just wondering if these places truly have good food, atmosphere in general for caribbean type restaurants and yes, service, as with kids who can get antsy, it is important.

Thanks again for your response,
cara

Don't forget Skinny Leggs for great burgers on the porch!
