Im 25 and will be staying in STT June 1st-June 8th. Im trying to locate the best beaches for snorkeling. I've read that Coki Beach, Secret Harbor, and Sapphire beach in STT are places to go. I plan on taking the ferry over to STJ and visiting Trunk Bay, but I would also like to find other good places on STJ. If you can give me any advice I would greatly appreciate it. I opted to not rent a car, I know taxis get expensive but Im ok with that. Thanks

Your best bet is to search here under snorkling and you'll find reams of posts about the best snorkling locations on all the islands. Be ready to take notes!

LongIsland,

You almost can't go wrong on St. John.

If you go to Trunk, you can also go to Jumbie which is just before Trunk on the Highway.

Cinnamon is also a nice snorkel, but the beach can be crowded.

I like the East wall of Gibney, for a little less snorkeled place.

And one of my favorites is to snorkle between Maho Beach on the highway and Francis.

Waterlemon is a must do. Take your time snorkling out to the Waterlemon, because there are a lot of turtles that hang out in that area.

Have fun,

JFP

This will help you. It is the National Park's guide to snorkeling at the beaches on St. John.
I actually printed this out, enlarged it and laminated it.

Have a nice trip.

The only place we snorkeled on STJ was Leinster Bay (did I spell that right?) because we were told by the helpful guy at the visitor's info booth that that was where the "locals" go, but that tourists mostly go to Trunk. I wanted the best fish experience, so we hiked the long and rocky path to Leinster. I will say that we were somewhat disappointed there. We did see a flounder, which is white-ish and looks sorta like a stingray, and we saw starfish and that was cool, and a barracuda, but other than that, there just wasn't a lot of fish there. And we went out towards that little island and over by the rocky land side. Hmmmm...I wonder if we didn't go to the right spot? I really wanted to go to Trunk, but he said you'd have to pay $4 each and it's really touristy.

On STT, the best snorkeling was at Coki and Sapphire. Secret Harbor was kinda cloudy and not many fish where we were on the right. Loved the beach at Sapphire. At Coki, we put our stuff down right where some locals (I'm guessin') were camped out in one of the small buildings and smokin' pot, so we had to smell that all day. Also, the folks will come right up to you and try to sell you stuff while you're trying to just work on your tan, but other than that, I will say I had a taste of the BEST pina colada at The Mailman's place. That guy can tell some tales.......
