My Mom will be celebrating her Birthday during her first time visiting St. Thomas in mid April. I would appreciate any suggestions offered as to where we should take her for dinner to celebrate this event. She is getting up in age so this is a special treat for her. Oh she loves seafood!
Thank you

If you like views, Mafolie offers really great ones. This link gives an idea of view and menu.

I agree. Mafolie has a beautiful view at night and the food is really good. We were there last May with our kids and they are still talking about it.

I just got back and took my wife to Banana Tree Grille for her Birthday dinner. Liz (the owner) does a birthday decoration if you want her to. I contacted local florist for table arrangement ($70) as referred by Liz. Mafolie is better view - I've been there, too. Of the two, I'd do Banana Tree Grille first.

We just got back from our first trip to St. Thomas and for my birthday we went to Oceana-- excellent. The view was unbelievable and we got to see several cruise ships leaving with all the lights on. I had the pan seared mahimahi with mango and candied ginger sauce over sauteed vegs and my husband had the perfect filet mignon. They have an excellent tapas bar where you select your appetizers from a buffet like selection.Our drinks, meal and desserts only cost $99 and it was very much worth it. Casual dressy- and reservations suggested.Allow about 2 hours for your meal- it's slow and classy and WONDERFUL! Liz

Islander had this suggestion for someone last year. You can modify it for your mother;

Banana Tree Grill at Bluebeards. Call them and let them know its a special occasion/birthday. Tell them you want a window seat for the view. You might order an arrangement of your wife's favorite flowers (something that can be easily carried when you all leave the restaurant) and have it delivered to the restaurant for them to have on the table (let the restaurant know if you are doing this so they can give you their hours and so they know to expect it). If you have a song you might bring it on a cd and ask the waiter to have it played after dinner (they generally have soft music playing in the background) and ask your wife to dance. If your children aren't going to be there have cards from them to give to your wife. And after she opens them give her your card/present. Then enjoy a birthday desert and happy birthday song.

I can't choose-Oceana or Banana Tree Grill? I read the menus of both and I think my Mom would be pleased with either one. Even the suggestion of ordering flowers is a nice touch. Thank you all who have answered. So push me over to decide-help .

If you want the extras that Islander mentioned, I guess BTG is already familiar with accommodating them.

all the previous suggestions are on target. Do not fall for all the hype about Herve, it is not nearly as good as Banana tree, Room with a View, Havana Blue(great).

Have fun

Hands down Banana Tree Grille!

As a restaurant owner who appreciates good food and value, so many places here are inconsistent with shifting of ownership and changes in chefs. The Buckalew's chef, Patrick, has been with them for ever and I have NEVER been disappointed. Great place, great food, great ambiance and a lovely view overlooking the cruise ship dock. Cheers, and have a great time!
