Will be cruising to St Thomas and St Maarten next week, and I'm a big avid photographer, will be bringing along my digital SLR and plenty of storage. I wanted to get some tips from locals on the best vantage points for scenery photography on St Thomas mainly, and possibly St John if we decide to head over there. Even some spots off the beaten path, that only locals would know about. I dont plan to do any of the cruise-related excursions (except maybe one snorkel/cocktail excursion in one of the 3 ports), so we'll be flexible to take taxis wherever we need to go.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated before the end of the day Thursday!

Thanks!!!

Chris

Not as familiar with STT but Jo-Ann is correct about STJ. There are the classic overlooks onto Trunk Bay and Caneel Bay from the North Shore Road. If the weather cooperates, the views from Bordeaux Mountain East across Coral Bay to the East end of STJ and NE to BVI are very nice.

Chris is right. The "classic" overlooks always make for a nice scenic shot.

I got some good ones out at Drunk Bay if you want to make a trip out to there. It's very different looking out there.

We also got some cool ones at one of the smaller forts/ruins sites. We took the Lenister Bay trail until it forks off the Johnny Horn Trail. (I think that's the name). A little ways down, there's an old garrison. We got some cool pictures looking through the archway of the garrison out over the water.

Otherwise, point and shoot. It's hard to get a bad shot on STJ

Hello,

On St. Thomas; I'd say rent a car (you can do a taxi as well). Head up to Blackbeards Castle... a number of very nice shots from there of town, cruise ships, harbor. Then head to Drakes Seat for views of Magens... you can also go down to Peterborg for the opposite angle on the beach. If you go into town the historic sites are nice; Fort Christian, 99 steps, churches. Secret Harbor and Sapphire are pretty beaches. For unpopulated, windy, waves type beach you could head to Dorothea Bay.

Make sure you share it with us when you get it. Better yet, keep us in mind if it goes commercial ; )

Also on STT you might want to take a trip to MountainTop. Similar view as from Drake's Seat (which is a must), but much higher up. And Paradise Point is always a pretty shot. You can take the tram right next to the ship, or drive up.
