Where is the best place to buy fresh fish on st john? Quality, freshness and selection are most important, then price.
Thanks, Joe
The place I am going to suggest is not a regular fish market but frequently is where we buy fish when available. In Cruz bay there is a shack like looking open air store called Natures Nook. It is a green trimmed building right across from the harbor where the customs building and National park building are located. When the local fisherman catch fish they often sell it right next to the Natures Nook store, cutting it up with knives on a cooler. It is as fresh as it gets and the prices are excellent ($5-8 lb for Mahi). Anytime of day is a possibility but generally morning (9-12am) or afternoon (3-5pm).

What kind of fresh fish is available most often?
Is it a seasonal thing?
We're looking at a mid to late October visit, and I'd like to cook fresh fish at least a couple of times if we get the chance and having some kind of an idea of what I'd be working with would help me to be somewhat prepared.
Did you ever think about taking a half day charter not the cheapest way to get them but it is fun and you know there fresh I've been on double header twice and always have come home with more fish then we could eat in a week.

Cap'n Josh, what kind of fish can we hope for this time of year? We will be in late next month...
