I know this is still quite a few months away, but my Husband and I are planning a trip to St. John this coming June. I was wondering if there was a day on average that has the least amount of cruise ships in Charlotte Amalie than other days? We would like to pick a day to visit Charlotte Amalie, but don't necessarily want all of the Cruise Ship traffic. I plan on checking the cruise ship schedule closer to time, but wanted to get an idea ahead of time.

Thanks!

Hello Marie,

Based on the itinaries of ships calling on the USVI, June shouldn't be very busy compared to right now for example. Our season slows down in late April/May. Some days in June have no ships and others just one. Seems like more days with 0-1 ship then not. Here are the days that appear as though they will have 2 to 3 ships in June... 2, 6, 14, 16, 18, 20, 28, 30.

There are not as many cruise ships in June as during the busy winter months. We were there this past June and normaly no more than 3. If I recall, there were a few with only 1 and one with no ships. Unless others know of a trend, the only thing you can do is look at the Cruise Schedule at the top of the page (just to the right of VINOW logo). They do not post until the last few days of the prior month i.e. look late May for your June schedule.

Thank you for your quick responses!! I will definitly check that link out near the beginning of June, but have to say I'm happy that almost any day we pick won't be too busy for us! There's a reason why we're staying closer to Coral Bay on St. John! 😉

Now I just have to get through "winter" here in PA - although it hasn't even snowed yet!

Thanks again!

HA!
I moved from PSU to Houston to get away from snow and we had 5 inches Xmas eve. One thing's for sure, you won't get snow on STJ.

Chris,

That's too funny! We saw the news reports about the snow and ice in Texas on Christmas and I was thinking, "glad it's not us!" 🙂 But, I knew my luck would run out. Looks like winter is coming our way...just found out we're under a winter weather watch for possible snow/ice for tomorrow into Thursday! Yuck! I'm really looking forward to our trip to St. John now!!

Just want to worn you not to go into town when there are no ships if you want to shop. Most of shops have short hours or do not open at all.

Is this true of Havensight only or downtown as well? We had no problems in downtown and never went to Havensight os I have no experience.

You'll love STJ and regardless of how many cruise ships are in you will love going back to the serenity of STJ at the end od the day. After spending a week on STJ, my kids mentioned "I think they call that a traffic light!" on the drive back to the STT airport.

On "no ship" days, you may find that some fo the stores don't open, but not many. Remember...we always have hotel guests! And the stores wanna sell to them, too! Maybe Bill was in town on a "no ship" Sunday. Sundays, whether there ships or not, the entire town stores close at 12 or 1 pm.

I was really surprised at how early everything closed down in St. Thomas. The majority of the stores at Havensight and the Waterfront were closed by 5:00 even when the ships were in. Geez, the stores here in the states stay open until 9:00 on weekdays and Saturdays and only close at 5:00 on Sundays. I would have thought that with the amount of tourism in the area, the stores would stay open later.

Fortunately, they appear to live by 'island time' and have lives outside their shops rather than the hectic pace we practice on the mainland.
Of course, 'island time' is why we love going to USVI in the first place...to relieve stress!
