Hello I am coming to St.Thomas in December on a cruise ship, I am taking an island tour with a local company there which includes beach time at eather Sapphire, Coki or Megans Bay. Im leaning toward Sapphire beach, as I've heard it has showers and restrooms. I hope to see birds, sea turles, igwanas, rays, goats etc.. Does this beach have snorkle equiptment for rent and is it a good spot for underwater sea life as well as animals on land? Thanks

Hello Showcat,

Of the beaches you listed I believe Magens Bay is the only one with showers, and they are salt water showers. All three have restrooms.

You will see birds at all three beaches; pelicans, seagulls. Iguanas & ducks are common at Sapphire Beach. Chances of seeing turtles & rays are well... a chance - not a sure thing. I don't remember ever seeing rays at any of them. I have seen turtles at Magens Bay. Goats - hmmm, I've seen goats when going to Coki, not everytime and not at the beach but on the roadside on the way there. Not something you typically see at beaches. You might see some goats while doing the island tour.

There is snorkel gear to rent at Sapphire and the snorkeling is good.

If you want to see turtles, rays, iguanas and have a guarantee of seeing them perhaps you should visit Coral World Marine Park; its next to Coki Beach. http://www.coralworldvi.com/
