Hi.

I am getting married on November 6th and my fiance and I will be coming to St. Thomas on the 8th. I have done a lot of traveling before, and was always thankful for the behind-the-scenes tips that I often just stumbled upon...but if I could have and idea of some MUST-DO's that I wouldn't find on every google, hit, that would be AWESOME.

SO---food, music, nature, shopping, snorkeling, yadda yadda---does any one have specific places, times, events, companies, services that are not totally touristy and should be experienced while on the island?

ALSO, I'd love some feedback on our resort---Marriot Frenchman and Morning Star Beach Resort. Any horror stories? Compliments?

Thanks for reading this madness of a Bridezilla!

Peace

Congrats on the wedding! My recommendation would be to read thru all of the old posts on this board first, THEN post a question to your specific wants/needs. Probably everything that you want to know is there already. There is just SOOO much to see and do here, that your question was just too vague. Check out everything else, and then you'll be able to ask exactly what it is that you are looking for.

Morningstar is absolutely beautiful. You will be pleased. But don't waste your entire honeymoon there! Get out and see/experience the USVI and BVI! (don't forget passports or birth certificates w/ photo ID! (and bring a copy of your marriage cert, too!)

Thanks so much for your response---I did notice a lot of awesome ideas throughout the board history, and realized after writing that my request was extremely vague....good point

I'm glad to have a first-hand response about the resort---we booked online and tried to do as much research about the facility as possible before deciding for sure, as there were other places that seemed amazing but had HORRIBLE reviews on TripAdvisor, etc...

OK---here's a question: I noticed a conversation about the best grocery stores to shop in, so here's an added bit (and probably ridiculously obvious)...Is it more economical to go grocery shopping for breakfast and lunch foodstuffs and go all out for dinners (assuming there are no meals in the vacation package)...

ALSO, this is for the deal monger in me: Are people generally receptive if we were to ask for special honeymoon deals? I know it may seem lowbrow, but I figure (God willing), this will be my only honeymoon, so I'd like to milk it for what it's worth...

Ok, that's it for now...

Naive Indianan signing off....

Actually my husband and I were married in STT 6 years ago on Nov 13! Best thing we ever did ! Best of luck to you

As far as shopping we always go to the Marina Market. We buy breakfast foods/lunch/snacks and never forget the rum. Since we always stay for 10 days it could be rather costly eating out three times a day. Plus I like it because it's a convenience too. Not having to wait to be served/driving somewhere etc...But, that's were I draw the line! We always have a nice dinner out every night.

19 more days to go! :O)

YAY!! What a great tip from a former honeymooner! Do you go back every year?

Your answer was so helpful-----I'm thinking we'll go for the convenience and cost of going to the market, and then no holds barred for dinner...

How close is the Marina Market from the Marriott Frenchman Resort? Is it walking distance??

Thanks for your advice---I can't wait!!

Hello Danielle,

There are no grocery stores in walking distance from Mariott. Mariott is closer to Gourmet Gallery in Havensight... Pueblo & K-mart are also in that area. If you have a rental car you can shop anywhere.

(Does your room have a small refrigerator in it?) I think get breakfast items & picnic type lunch items, a case of water so you can take a couple bottles with you in your backpack when heading to the beach and then splurge on dinner - lots of great choices; Banana Tree Grill, Room with a View, Tavern of the Waterfront, Craig and Sallys, Iggies, Hook, Line and Sinker, Blue Moon Cafe...

Deal monger is good for shopping downtown, not necessary to mention your are honeymooners - its just that some stores are willing to bargain and expect to. I don't think your honeymoon pitch will work for say attraction entrance costs, rental car, taxis... Restaurants; you might let them know its your honeymoon, perhaps you might get a more romantic seating area, better view, a free drink. Not sure; any brides/grooms have experience with this.

As for things going on....
There is a concert at Reichhold Center on the 13th: Isaac Hayes Concert
At the end of the 60s he put the symphonic into soul music, setting the tone for the sophisticated sounds of the 70s. Isaac Hayes is one of the most iconic figures in African-American music, with hits such as “I Stand Accused,” “Walk On By,” “Chocolate Chip,” “It’s Heaven to Me,” and the theme song from the movie “Shaft.” Visit www.reichholdcenter.com for more information.

You might try happy hour at Paradise Point on Wed. afternoons. Free tram ride during happy hour only (not all day, usually its $15 round trip) ... often there is live music, nice view, good drinks.

The Caribbean show at Bolongo Bay includes dinner and entertainment - thats a neat show to attend.

On Sunday afternoons at Sapphire Beach Resort there is a live band at the beach bar and its a nice beach.

I think of Water Island as an off the beaten path place... you could pack some snacks/drinks and head over there for the day, hike around a little, have lunch at Pirates Ridge Deli and then spend the afternoon on the beach (its usually very sparsely populated on weekdays unless the Kon Tiki party boat is in, usually comes in around 1pm or thereabout for an hour and then leaves again). There is also a bike tour on Water Island.

St. John for a day of hiking, beach hopping is another to do.

You might plan a daysail for one of your days and let them know its your honeymoon; they are likely to do something special. Check out the charter options at:

Tip: For shopping in town or for visiting popular cruise tour beaches (Coki, Magens) pick a day that has less ships. You can view the ship schedule on this site at

Have a great time, I look forward to reading your vacation review on where you went and what you thought!!

WOW!! I am SO thankful to have found this website and to have such speedy and thorough a response...Islander, are you one person, or a team of people to boost the success and hospitality of the USVI?? Just curious, because it's working..... 🙂

I'm actually very lucky (not as lucky as the folks that live there though)we go back twice a year. November for our anniversary and March for my hubbies birthday. (smart aren't I...I get to enjoy his present too).

The Islanders reply if right on the money of course. You definatly don't want to walk to the food store. Cab it or consider renting a car. There are other places to shop that are closer than the Market I mentioned. That happens to be very close to where we stay.

More tips:

Consider a day or sunset cruise. (that's always the highlite of my trip)
Put some time aside for a little shopping
Visit various beachs and islands
Pick up ST THOMAS THIS WEEK at the airport when you arrive and read through (it's a local magazine with a lot of information as to whats going on while you are there) (free)
My personal Favorite Restaurants:
Romanos (italian)
Room with a View
Blue Moon Cafe

Kimberly,

You're awesome! It's so nice to have all these tidbits to reference when my fiance and I travel to paradise! Is it generally beautiful weather all the time? Is November a fairly quiet, or very high tourist month? We'll be there the first part of the month, so I'm just curious...

Generally our weather is the same everyday. Rarely do we have a cloudy day (although today is one of them!), yet it rains almost everyday...but only for about 10-20 minutes and then the sun is back out with rainbows. The difference from the coldest part of winter to the hottest part of summer is only about 5 or 6 degrees.

November is offically the "off" season, but all that means is that there may not be cruise ships every day and the hotel rates haven't gone up yet. But, since STT's only industry is tourism, there are always tourists here. I belive Dec.15th is the offical start of season.
