I love to try local beers when traveling... microbrewery type beers. It's fun to try different stuff and some of them are excellent. Are there any USVI beers... beers brewed in the VI? I've heard of Carib.... where is that brewed? I can't get it here in Canada. Any other caribbean brewed beers available on STJ?

Cheers back atcha Blu... I do love a good dark beer and would love to find a WI porter while I'm on STJ.

Yes, I live in St. Louis. Grew up in Murphysboro, IL and moved to STL in 1992 after college. I have lived in Ballwin since 1994. My husband and I have been to the VI about 4 times and absolutely LOVE it! We'd move in a heartbeat if it weren't for our collective families here as well as kids (aged 7 & 9) entrenched in Rockwood Schools, which are wonderful. Not so sure about the schools in USVI. It's a great retirement dream and, for now, vacation paradise!

Has anyone ever heard of Caribe (with an accent over the "e" that I can't make on my laptop) beer brewed by Caribbean Dev Co, Trinidad? I have an empty bottle of it that I got in the mid 80s. It's a really cool painted bottle that always reminded me of the islands, so I kept it. Just wondering if it's still around.

Crickett,

Carib is a very popular beer in the Caribbean. Check out www.caribbeer.com. It's a very good beer that I enjoyed on St John last year. I haven't seen it in Maine, but I am still looking.

Rod,
I now know about Carib beer from this thread, but what I'm asking about is Caribe (the e has an accent over it) beer out of Trinidad... wondering if it's still around.

I try local brews everywhere I go, and I have to say that the VI Pale Ale is one of my top 5. Just got back from STJ last week and my mouth is watering at the thought of having another! Fabulous. . . if you don't like it, bring the rest back for me!

The Virgin Islands Pale Ale is a nice thing to try when you are on St.John. It isn't brewed there, but it has a local taste. I met the brewers when I was there in June. The mango flavor is good for a few, but you may tire of it.
Foxy's beers are very good, and are available all over, but they can be a little heavy.
Carib is probably the best overall bet, with it's light body and flavor. It goes down well in the hot weather in the Virgin Islands.

Of course Cruzan, is always a good alternative to beer 🙂

Foxy's is a great beer I think it is made on STX and only uses Foxy's name. You can get it on STT,STX and STJ.
I will be on STX next month and my first stop will be to buy some cold Foxy's.

Virgin Island Pale Ale is to fruity for my taste, but my son loves it. Everyone to their own taste.
