A couple of weeks ago my husband and I spent five days in St.Thomas, with one of those days taking a trip over to St.John.If anyone reading this is thinking of going there they should do it! It has beautiful beaches full of white sand and bright blue water. There's so much to do there. If you do go there make sure you look into a thing called SNUBA before you go or ask about it when you get there,it can be done on either St.Thomas or on St.John.If you're looking for a place to stay and have a little money to burn, you should look into the Marriott's Morning Star Beach Resort,it is right on the beach but you can walk along a wooden scenic walkway to the Marriott's Frenchman's Reef resort and use all the facilities there plus there's more bars and restaurants besides the ones at the Morning Star. If you do happen to stay there, don't miss the Lobby Bar outside at sunset and stay there long enough to watch all the lights as they slowly come on across the harbor in Charlotte Amalie.
Great timing! We are actually going there for my bro's wedding in a week. The reception will be there. Any suggestions for good reataurants? or perhaps day sails to the BVI's? thanx 🙂
Hi Laura:
In response to your e-mail, there are several good restaurants to consider in each price range. I live on St. Thomas and am glad to recommend!!!
Craig and Sally's and Hotel 1829 are both upscale and terrific dining options. Both are quite close to Frenchman's Reef, maybe a 7-10 minute taxi ride. If you want world-class food and ambiance either is a good bet.
The best dining for the money is up at Cafe' LuLu, which is in more of a residencial area towards the north side of the island. It will take you a little longer by taxi, about 15 minutes, but is well worth the trip. Patricia LaCorte is the head chef and proprietor (and is also a good friend!). She has been featured in many cullinary write-ups over the years. The setting is a little more casual and the food is eclectic and, well, awesome!
A good place for cheap but good eats is Sib's on the Mountain. It is at the top of Mafolie Hill over Charlotte Amalie (the downtown area) and has great sandwiches and "homecooking" style main dishes. Nice, casual outdoor seating....Tip!!!! Ask to be seated in the back courtyard area. If you want some quiet tranquility to be part of your dinner, that area is for you.
On the BVI trip, you might consider a day sail by Captain Nautica. It is a VERY casual sail, leaning more towards a "booze cruise" type of setting. It is actually a speed raft that accomodates maybe 15 people and is really a good time. The boat travels at high speed to snorkling at several spots, including "The Baths" on Virgin Gorda, which is only the most beautiful beach possibly in the entire world!! There is also a lunch spot included as part of the trip at the Soggy Dollar Bar and Grill, so named because you have to swim in from your boat to get there!! It is an extremely well run sail and a sure bet for those who want to let their hair down and have a good time.
Hope you have fun on our island. My wife and I are opening a Bed and Breakfast in November of this year called Bella Vista and invite you to stay on your next trip.
Have Fun!!! Regards, Frank S.
How do I get in touch with Nautica ahead of time to get info on their trips?
