I usually wear cheap beach shoes from Target but I recently aggravated an old foot injury so I think I should invest in some high quality shoes for my trip. We plan on hiking the Rams Head Trail and going to The Baths and a few other sailing trips. I have been looking at the online shoe stores but nothing there is in our stores to try on. The only pair I found was called Ecco Receptors Atlantis - didn't work. I tried on Teva sandles and the Keen sandles and did not find them comfortable because they offered little arch support. I do have a slightly wider foot due to the injury.
Is anyone familure with any of these shoes - mainly arch support, wear and tear when exposed to salt water etc
Merrell Waterpro Multi Sport Shoes
Ryka Aqua Fit Slip On or Lace and Toggle
Nike Air Zoom Orizaba
Salomon Pro Amphib water shoes
Teva Gammas
Speedo Aqua Fit Trainer or Speedo Techinical Water shoe
Sprint Aqua shoes
Lands End Extreme Sport Shoes
These will be the most expensive shoes I will ever buy so I want to make sure it is a good quality shoe that will last.
Do they sell this type of shoe in St. Thomas/St. John? If so where?
Any personal experience or knowledge with these kind of shoes would be appreciated. Thank you.
Teva straps tend to stretch - if I am going to have a 'strap' sandal, then I go with Chaco - made in the US.
My choice of all the above - the Merrell. I have a couple pairs of their clogs from when I worked in a restaurant, and WOW....still wear them when I am on my feet in the 'shop' all day. I don't know any retailer here who sells Merrell though - as I ordered about 8 pairs for a few co-workers. www.onlineshoes.com seemed to have the best deals - and they ship USPS (a PLUS for me, anyway)
Good luck!
I wear water shoes every day (I teach swimming and I'm in the water sometimes 8-9 hours a day) I wear Avia water shoes ( my favorite, but they only last about three months in the pool) Teva gammas (also very comfortable, lasts longer) and and a new teva that looks like a maryjane, Can't think of the name of the style. The Avia's have great support and can be found for about $45 online. Try the Avia websight. Teva Gammas are about$60.00 and are also supportive. Al are easy to get on and off and dry well.
