*We are due to visit St Thomas during our cruise end feb early march. We will be there on 2 consecutive friday's as we are doing a back to back 2 wk cruise on sea princess. Makes the long flight from the uk worthwhile. My kids are 4,6,and 10 so we will spend a lot of time on the beach! the 1st visit to st thomas we plan on visiting coral world, and then going on to the beach. We prefer a quiet beach away from the crowds, where the swimming is safe. But we do need facilities eg, toilets and somewhere to buy drinks etc. Do not need watersports but chair, umbrella hire would be good. From everything i've read so far, sapphire beach sounds good. How do we get there and can we use the facilities in the hotel? Advice much appreciated. Thanks

Hello Ian,

I would say for a kid/family friendly beach either Magens Bay or Sapphire Beach. Sapphire Beach - you can take a taxi to get there from the cruise ship. You can use the facilites yes - however as a non-guest of the hotel then you will pay a rental fee for use of the chairs and kayaks and so forth if you choose to use them. There is a bar/restaurant there, bathrooms as well. There is also a pool, so if you wanted to, you could get your drinks and lunch at the poolside bar/restaurant rather then the beach one (the pool is on the beach at the far right side) and then the kids could play in the pool as well, since you would be eating and drinking poolside.
Enjoy the trip.

Thanks Islander,

We will probably make a call as to which beach on the day based on how many other ships are in port and how quickly we can disembark. On our second visit a week later we plan to go over to St John on the ferry from Red Hook and then on to either Cinammon or Trunk Beach. Will we be able to get taxis back easily from both and what are the facilities like ? Thanks.

The cruise ship schdules are available on this site, on a monthly basis, usually a week before the new month starts. So you can check back for that information - you can find it from the home page, frequently asked information.

St. John is wonderful. Both Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay are great, and with chidlren - still both good. And yes you will easily get a taxi from the ferry dock to the beaches on St. John, both have good facilities - showers, bathrooms, food hut... and both will have taxis at the taxi stand on the property for getting you back to the ferry.

You will have a great time.

ps. With your children and yourself - do wear lots of sunblock, and put sunblock on the kids, the sun is brutal. Sun burns will put a damper on the vacation.
