I'm trying to find a good beach location for a wedding I'm planning in St. Thomas Nov 2, 2004. I've talked to several wedding coordinators and I'm having a hard time trying to decide which beach to have it on. Twenty to twenty five people will be joining us and I want it to be comfortable for everyone. I really want a sunset wedding with a possible beach restaurant near by to have a small dinner reception. So far I've got info on Secret Harbor Beach w/ Blue Moon, Emerald Beach w/The Palm, and Blue Beards Beach Club. Which is better? Are there any other suggestions. "HELP".

Thanks
Adele

Hello Adele,

Blue Beards Beach Club would likely have the fewest people on the beach if privacy is something you want. The beach is small and wate a bit rocky but all in all a nice back drop for a wedding. Secret Harbor is a pretty beach and Blue Moon is a good resturant; if you were on either ends of the beach you would have a building immediately behind you. I have attended a wedding at Secret Harbor; they married sort of in the middle of the beach to get trees behind them and the beach in front and then they had a private party at the restuarant and had a band playing music - it was very nice. If you don't have the restaurant to yourselves then you can expect folks from the resort eatting and drinking there as well. Emerald Beach and the Palm; I have seen a number of weddings pool side at this resort. Its also a nice choice but you certainly have more buildings around as the resort is right on the beach as is the restaurant and pool.

5 1/2 years ago my husband and I were married on the beach at Secret Harbor (November 13th) and had a "reception" at the Bluemoon Cafe with about 25 guests. The view, service and food was wonderful. The ceremony began at 4:00 and had beautiful pictures of the sunset. We did have a wedding planner who arranged-photogaher-video-flowers-minister-hairstylist and steel band. Everything went smooth with the exception of the band not showing up.
We go back every year (sometimes twice) and actually stay at SH. This past November we were very disappointed with the service at the Bluemoon Cafe as well as the food-it could have been an off night. Maybe post a question asking how the food is and let other people voice their opinion!
My husband and I recently went to the Ritz Carlson for some drinks and saw the most spectacular wedding. They have a spectacular patio where this particular wedding took place with views of the ocean. (you can always walk down to the beach for a few pics). I have to say it was very classy. If I would have saw this b-4 my wedding I may have had it there.
Lot's of luck to you-getting married in ST Thomas your in a win win situation no matter where the location

I have always thought that if I got married again and it was in the VI, I would rent a villa and do it by the pool on the gallery.

Beaches are just too populated.

As a photographer and one who lives on the bay directly across from Secret Harbor, I would suggest from the "sunset" aspect of your dream....it would not happen at Secret Harbor at least this time of year and into summer - why? Because sunsets happen further and further to the north of this southern side of the island. I had great sunsets over our bay in October and November, but no longer. I would opt for Hawksnest on St.John, except for the transportation issue of the number of people involved and the desire for a resturant setting nearby, like on the beach.

Magens might be a possibility - and depending on the date of the affair, and how many cruise ships are in port - most of the passengers will be getting back aboard just before sunset - leaving the beach somewhat "deserted"....possibly.

Thanks for the info. I'm familiar with the Ritz Carlton, but it might be out of my price range. Thanks for the reply I will check into the Blue Moon.

Thanks

Thanks Paul,

I've been to Magens and loved it. I would rather have the wedding in St. Johns, but figured it would be easier to have it in St. Thomas due to the number of people joining us. I also thought things would go smoother with a restaurant nearby so that we wouldn't have to stop the flow of things by driving to a different location. Oh well sunset or convenience I don't know.
