we will be taking an eastern carribean cruise in January, stopping in St-Thomas and St.Maarten. Are there any beaches where tourists can spend the day with certain amenities...
thanks

Which amenities? We have something like 43 beaches here on STT, so you'll have to help us narrow it down a little for you.

We have been on 3 cruises. Our main goal is for relaxation and to soak up the sun. On STT, we have been to Magen's and Sapphire Beach.

Our most recent cruise was this past spring and we went to Sapphire Beach. We loved Sapphire Beach. We were able to rent chairs and set up under the trees at the edge of the ocean. We did go to Sapphire as soon as we were able to get off the ship so we were one of the first ones at the beach. There is a restaurant, bar, parasailing and other items to rent for water sports. The view, water and snorkeling was incredible. Obviously, it continues to get crowded as the day progresses and the cruise ships dock.

Magen's Beach was beautiful but I do not think it compares to Sapphire. When we went to Magen's it was extremely crowded and not the same facilities as Sapphire. However, Magen's is much larger than Sapphire.

When you go to St. Maarten I would say hands down you should go to Orient Beach. However, this is a clothing optional beach. We took a tour that we booked thru the cruise line. It was for a half day that included lunch. We were able to rent chairs and an umbrella. Options for food and bars were close and they did have waiters for the area we were in. We loved watching the people.

I guess it all depends what you want to do while you are in port. Continue to check this forum and research as much as you can before you go and I think you will be able to find the perfect place on both islands to make a perfect trip.
