Hello Maureen,

There are only two beach-hotels Caneel Bay and The Westin.... you can use the beach at either without a pass but aren't suppose to use the chairs and other items for guest. I don't think the Westin sells day passes (some hotels on St. Thomas do)... I am not sure about Caneel Bay would guess not. What are you interested in -just using the chairs? When you say you have visited the park - you have visited all the beaches within the Park Area?

Sorry, but I have to show my ignorance and ask...What is a beach pass? Why do you need one? Will I need to "get" one when I vacation in STT?

Hello Nickey,

Glad you asked, quite likely others might not know what it is either. All beaches here are public so no you don't need a beach pass to use any of the beaches. There are some beaches you have to pay a fee to use like Magens Bay on St. Thomas - designated public park, Trunk Bay on St. John - National Park and I believe Buccaneer on St. Croix charges for parking on their property to use the beach.

A day pass is something a lot of cruise ship guest ask about, they are interested in spending the day at a resort while in port for the day and willing to pay say $10-15 for if they can use the chairs on the beach, floats, maybe the pool - things you can not use as a non-guest. Some hotels allow this, others do not and say you can only use the beach and not hotel property. As far as I understand neither resorts on St. John offer this sort of day pass arrangement but you can use the beaches in front of the resort and all the other great St. John Beaches.

Hi Maureen,
Just returned from that beautiful Island. We stayed at the Westin and I think they do have day passes. We rented a car for a couple of days and rented beach chairs at a place in Mongoose(next to the bag shop)It's out front. It may be a canvas shop.
Good luck and have fun.
