OK, this may sound really silly, but we plan on doing all the best beaches we can. We're smart enough to lock everything up in the rental car when we're in the water, but what the heck do we do with the car keys when we're in the water? Especially if it's the keyless lock. I don't think those things can get wet. Can you rent lockers at the beaches? Another concern, gonna do the BVI boat/snorkel day trip, what do you suggest bringing along (besides suntan/spf stuff)? i know you need a birth certif. & photo I.D.. i want to take pictures and bringing underwater/waterproof disposable camera, what about bringing a digital camera? I just want to avoid having to drag a purse and a bunch of junk on an outing like that. Should you bring cash/credit cards/travellers checks on something like that? Didn;t know if any of the stops might have something going on where might come in handy.
Help!

Also, do you recommend water shoes/socks?

You can carry credit cards, money, etc in a water proof box in a fanny pack while snorkeling. We did that in Hawaii and it worked out pretty well.

Check with dive shops. I think the one we have is a Pelican case. They come in all sizes and shapes. If you don't have a local dive shop you should be able to find them on line. Just search for Pelican cases. I think that the company web page is www.pelican.com. Look for the micro cases.

Bring a ziplock bag, put all of your valuables in it, and bury it in the sand where you willknow where itis (like under your beach towel) when no one is looking.

Some, yes. Most, no.

"Another concern, gonna do the BVI boat/snorkel day trip, what do you suggest bringing along (besides suntan/spf stuff)? i know you need a birth certif. & photo I.D.. i want to take pictures and bringing underwater/waterproof disposable camera, what about bringing a digital camera?"

Unless it is a waterproof digital, I recommend leaving it. Some digitals have waterproof housings that you can buy, but they are expensive. You can always do the underwater disposables, and they will develop the film and put them on aCD for you at Blazing photos.

At any of the dive shops, or even K-mart, they sell this little box that is waterproof and hangs on your neck. It's big enough for cash, keys, credit cards, etc. And they are only, like, five bucks. Get one of those and you will be pleased.

That zip-lock bag Marty mentioned? Well, that's what I use, too, but I don't bury it in the sand. I put my credit card, driver's license, cash and, if not too bulky, keys in it and put it inside my one-piece bathing suit right around my waist. It often might get wet, but everything dries out rather quickly and nothing is ever ruined. I'd hate to be encumbered by those waterproof things bobbing around my neck. Last summer my boyfriend had his room-key card in his bathing suit pocket. I was swimming/snorkeling all over the beach and happened upon it. He didn't even know that he'd lost it. It's a big beach and he got lucky I had my head down... LOL

Hello Tamlyn,

Water shoes aren't necessary unless you plan to go to rocky beaches. Most beaches are soft sand.
