Great site and board... thanks for the info it has been great.

The family (wife and 8 year old) are headed to St. John for a 10 days later this week. I was wondering when we have gone to St. Martin and St. Barts some of the beaches have nice little bar/restaurants that rent chairs and might have food / coke / beer service. Anyting like this at any of the beaches on St. John.

On a side note, we are staying at the Westin for most of the time, (still trying to book Friday and Saturday). Do we want to rent a car? We typically dont mind taking cabs if they are easy to find, and not terribly expensive.

I think you will be happier with a rental car...especially for 10 days.

Beach chair rentals and food/bev at Trunk Bay and Cinnamon.

Last time we just bought a couple at the hardware store (and a cooler) and left them when we were done...that way our poor old backs would survive, yet we could visit lots of other beaches

Hello Tad,

Most St. John beaches are protected by the National Park and are mostly undeveloped; thats the attraction of St. John. In any case there are two beaches with resort developements; the Westin is on Great Cruz Bay and so chairs, watersports booth, restaurant are all there. Caneel Bay Resort is on Caneel Bay which is a beautiful beach and there is a resturant there (its a high end beach restaurant and bar). Then two of the National Park beaches have food and facilties; Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay.

Definately consider renting a car if you are exploring type. If you plan to spend a lot of time at the resort or in Cruz Bay shopping ect. then maybe just rent a car for a week and then use taxis the other 3 days.

Buying an inexpensive cooler and beach chairs is a great idea if you want to head to any of the other beaches and want to have food/drinks with you.
