Hubby and I are returning to St Thomas in April, however, we are arriving by cruise ship this time. We know that secret harbor has great snorkleing. I was wondering if we can use Secret Harbor's beach and where the access point is. Do we just walk from the parking lot to the beach?
Secret Harbour has horrible snorkeling. Why not try Coki Beach! 😉
East ender - I think you are the only person that has said that about Secret Harbour! From what I've read on here - its pretty good. altho, I won't get to try it out until April. SH is where we're staying, but I do want to go to Coki and over to SJ for a day.
Secret Harbor's snorkeling used to be great, but this year it has declined significantly, what with the raised water temps and run-off. It's still worth a visit, though, IMHO.
I agree with East Ender. If you want to snorkel and are only in St Thomas for one day, than Coki is a good choice and would make for a great day all around. Plus it has nicer water, cool and clear, more fish, and local food, drink, and ambiance.

to answer your ques... yes you can just park in there lot and walk on to the beach
I don't understand by the snorkeling is now different at Secret Harbour and not at Coki? You would think if the water temps were higher at one they would be higher at another. How has this changed snorkeling on ST John or around other popular USVI spots? Anybody notice any huge difference or changes at other area Beach's? I remember in the past how vibrant it was underwater at Secret Harbour...it was pretty disappointing this year to see the coral. Still saw a lot of fish, but the color was basically flat down there. It was almost numbing to see. However, if its your first time seeing it, its still beautiful.
SH is in a bay with little current coming in...Coki is out in the open with lots of current coming thru. Difference in temps, difference i water quality, difference in coral, etc.....
