What are your ideas on the best place to get a drink and enjoy the island life on St. John? We'll be in the company of our 13 and 9 year olds... I'm not talkin' upscale joints here.. just someplace to kick back and enjoy it all....

Thanks for your help, Matt

Wow Matt, I'm sure you're going to get a bunch of recommendations on this one! Given that you'll have the kids in tow I wouldn't recommend going to Caps in Cruz Bay, but to me these are a few good ones: The Beach Bar may be one of your best bets, Woody's, Compass Rose up at Pastory Gardens (I think they still have the putt putt golf for the kids), The Quiet Mon (elevated street view the kids might like), Skinny Legs & Shipwreck Landing over in Coral Bay.

What would make Cap's any different than Quiet Mon or Woody's to take kids to? I believe the only one would be the Pastory Gardens, as it is a family type atmosphere, the other's aren't. Can't see why anyone would want to subject their kids to a bar environment at all!

In the afternoon, Woody's is fine, in my opinion.

The Beach Bar is great on a Sunday afternoon(late) during Jazz Jam. Get a table on the beach, enjoy a few drinks and great music while the kids play.

Skinny Legs and Shipwreck have that bar vibe, but very kid friendly. Pastory Gardens is a great choice, too.

Just remember that kids don't belong on a bar stool at the bar, get a table, please. (just my opinion)

Thanks for all the input... unfortunately, United cancelled our flight this morning and put us on a flight tomorrow... so we are going to be delayed by a day. I appreciate all your concerns about kids in bars, but we don't take them there after 7pm... We're just used to the pub scene in the UK where kids were welcome to play and eat and drink (non-alcoholic bevs of course...)

Sorry about your delay. I hope you will follow up with the airline to get some type of compensation.

United has, after some negotiating, agreed to push back our departure date by one day without charging us the additional $100 per ticket change fee. So in effect, so we can stay an extra day. YIPEE!
