Just a quick post to say I’m back from visit #25 to St. Croix.

Took Cape Air for the first time from SJU to STX and loved it – it was like driving into St. Croix. Sat right behind the pilot on this little 10-seater – very smooth flight. They were good enough to let us standby on an earlier flight so we arrived two hours ahead of schedule at 1:30. Our baggage was delivered later.

Met Sandcrab and his troupe, as well as Linda J, at Rumrunner’s for cocktails last Wednesday. They are every bit as great in person as they are on-line and I hope to stay in touch. Saw Sandcrab again later in the week at The Bombay Club – I hope they enjoyed their meals as much as we enjoyed ours.

BIG NEWS – Met the Contessa! She was having lunch at Rumrunner’s on Wednesday and, after taking her picture from a distance, my sister persuaded me to introduce myself and give her our card. Believe it or not, she invited us up to the castle! Of course her “handlers” intervened and said they would call us – I gave them our available dates and am so sure that is going to happen (not!), still…… It’s true what they say about her dress and make-up: She was wearing a white caftan and what appeared to be a white flowered bathing cap – her eyebrows were drawn in and then had little tendrils coming down her eyelids.

Took a day trip to Tortola to go to Sebastian’s for rum. We took the seaplane (another tiny plane) to STT then the fast ferry to Tortola. Stopped at Pusser’s for a toddy at 9:30 AM (hey, I wasn’t going to be driving) where I ordered grog and my sister ordered……beer. Then took a taxi to Sebastian’s By the Sea (Little Apple Bay) where we lay on the beach until lunch time, had a terrific lunch, and bought the Sebastian’s Rum – a deliciously smooth spiced concoction that we’d had only once before. We figure it cost about $67/bottle when you factor in the trip to get it, but it was a great adventure. Beautiful resort with a great view on a perfect beach.

Attended the St. Patrick’s Day parade last Saturday and had our usual great time. We made our own t-shirts for the occasion that said “Blister Sisters of the Holy Mackerel” and we had necklaces of flashing clown fish, along with our festive hats. Unfortunately that was our last day and the only good thing I can say about being back is that I don’t need mosquito repellant – we had 7 inches of snow last night.

Joanne,

Sounded like you had a great time-- really packed alot in! Kerry and I were thinking about you two "Blister Sisters" and Sandcrab, Sara and their group and wishing we were back down there with you all. We are thinking about doing some island hopping next time we go like you did. (Although I hate to leave St Croix even for a day--- Kerry says I'm counting down the minutes I have left on the island starting the minute we arrive!)

We really enjoyed the Bombay Club when we were there in Feb. I wish I could find some of their creamy garlic/ranch salad dressing somewhere around here. Yummy!

Glad you had another good trip!

Thanks Paula - isn't that dressing the best?! I know the owner and most of the staff there, I'll have to ask how they make it when I'm there in October. Now that I think about it - why haven't I done that before?

I too start counting the time left as soon as I arrive - we have made so many friends on island over the years that the time fills up fast. But we sure enjoyed our trip to Tortola, it was a great time and we love the rum. Even the customs/immigration officials were laughing at us (that happens a lot) on the return because we had gone so far for such a short time just to get rum, but they admitted that we "got the good stuff."

If your timeshare allows, try to be there for next St. P's day (I assume it will be March 18) - we could all meet up!

By the way, did you get to the tarpon feeding at Rumrunners?

Hello Joanne,

Welcome back!! 25 visits, I'd say you are an honorary Crucian!! 🙂 Perhaps you will be surprised by a call back from the handlers... hey you might get to stay at the castle for your next trip down.

Could you give the details on your St. Croix - Tortola trip? Did you take the earliest Seaplane and 8:30am Fast Ferry? Which time did you come back on? Did you think it was worth it (besides getting the rum), recommend it for others?

Glad you had a great time!!

We totally forgot about the tarpon feeding at Rumrunners! Oh well, just another thing to put on my list of things I want to do when we go back. We did eat breakfast there and I fed the crabs again.

We don't have a timeshare-- just plan a trip whenever we can for the year. Last year we were there in April/May and this year we went for February. I would love to be there for the ST. Patricks Day parade--- will work on hubby! We were there for the Valentines Jump Up and had the best time! I was very surprised at how many people turn up for the jump up's. A different band playing every few streets, food and drinks, just a great atmosphere. And VERY safe.

Hey, if you get that dressing receipe from Bombay Club, will you share it?!

I second Islander's questions... we all need more info!
