We have already rented our vehicle for our March trip from AVIS (Hotwire) and is uncancelable. I heard through this message board that some STT rental companies prohibit you from taking it on a STJ car barge. Does anyone know if this is true of AVIS.
Thanks in advance as I really do not want to call them & wait on hold.
Tacman,
I will begin by saying I have not actually done this, but I do have a reservation with Avis. I gathered from these boards that this was allowed, but since car damage possibilities are endless I wanted to get the info straight from Avis (and have a written copy, if I ever needed it). I emailed them directly, and this was their response (very slightly abbreviated):
"Renting from Avis on STT...the cars are allowed to ferry to St. J with the following restriction: Damage to the car while traveling on the ferry will not be covered by LDW (Loss Damage Waiver). No roadside assistance is available at St J. If the car breaks down the customer is responsible for returning the car to St. T. If purchased, LDW will be in effect while on the island of St. J."
The email turn-around time was only a couple of days if you wanted to email them yourself.
Others may have more personal experience.

C-Cmom- Thanks for the quick reply. That about covers it.
If anyone does have any person experiences with AVIS, please post them. I know that "corporate policy" can vary from place to place...
Whenever I have a matter that could have financial or legal consequences, I always go to the source for clarification rather than relying on what somebody told me on some internet forum.
Every summer, we rent from Avis and take the car to STJ...haven't had any problems yet 🙂
