My wife and I are coming to St. Thomas in October for 10 days. We've heard it's just about essential to rent a auto, but the prices we've found were quite high for a compact car. Anyone know of a good rental place that has "reasonable" prices.

We always use Dependable Car Rental. They have always gone out of their way to be helpful even when I forgot to reserve a car until 3 days before we got there. This year we paid $262 for the week. They will pick you up right at the airport. htt://www.dependablecarrental.com (I think)
Whatever you do, don't rent from Budget.
1) They have no emergency service after hours or weekends.
2) Their customer service is a joke. I e-mailed them about the emergency service and all I got was a form response and after 3 more e-mail attempts they finally responded that they had gotten back to me via e-mail the day after I first wrote. This was not true. I have all the correspondence and there was no attempt to contact me when they said that they did. In addition, they did not even offer me any compensation for our inconvenience.
3) The coupons that they offer are not worth the extra money you will spend on the rental.
4) In conclusion, I would also recommend Dependable Car Rental. I have heard nothing but positive comments about them.
