Hello William,

The best way to see the entire island is to drive around yes, and for convienience and freedom having a rental car is the best as you can beach hop, sightsee, if you are at one place and don't like it you can jump in your rental car and go somewhere else.

Driving takes a couple hours to a day to get used to. Just keep re-peating "right is wrong" or "left, left, left", the speed limit here is relatively low so you can take your time while you get comfortable.

For suggestions on car rental places - let us know what island you are visiting.

Just call the major companies and compare quotes for the best rate. It is cheaper to get it at the aiprort than through your resort/hotel. Definitely reserve your car before you arrive--we always do, but we find sometimes we are waiting at the airport for our rental car to be returned from the previous renter and it then has to be inspected and cleaned.

Nothing you can do-- but just don't let the wait ruin the beginning of your wonderful vacation. And, it is not hard to drive around--just make sure you get maps from your car rental agency and just follow the major roads around the island. You'll have a lot of fun and definitely get to see a lot more than the taxi-sightseeing tours.
