We are going to St John VI the 3rd week of August. What kind of weather can we expect? Is this still the heart of the hurricane season or is the threat pretty much over?

Hello Mike,

Scroll to the top of this page and on the right hand side click on Weather. (Its right below the search field's Go button.)

In that section there are tables with avergage temperatures by month, highs and lows, average rainfall by month, water temperatures and hurricane stats. You'll find the information you are looking for there.

August and September are the months we historically have more hurricane activity. Those two months are the heart of hurricane season.

August and September are when things traditionally get busy. This year has been especially busy early. That's not to say USVI will experience anything anyway so do not get too worked up over it. If you are concerned, see about travel insurance but make sure it covers weather related items...some don't.

The humidity will be higher than during the winter but it is probably much higher than what you are used to anyway so a few percentage points increase is all relative. As the tradewinds are more active during the late sumer, any 'storm' or rainy weather passes through that more quickly.

You can check the weather link on this site as you get closer to your trip but don't let anything (short of a hurricane) ruin your outlook.

Have a great trip.

When we went last year in August, it was hot, humid but sunny most of the time. Any tropical storm activity stayed to the south or north. Since we spent most of our time in the water, the heat never really got to us! 🙂 We're going back in less than 2 weeks and it looks like the tropics are quiet....at least for now!
