*Hello there,
Just wondering if there is anywhere to rent ATV's on the island of St.Croix? Either with a group or indiviual rentals. We are arriving in February 2006. Thanks for your help,
Tanya

Hello Tanya,

No ATV rentals on St. Croix that I know of. Come to think of it I don't recall ever seeing an ATV on any of the USVI islands.

Islander (and Tanya): I have to say thank heaven that this fad has not reached here. I hope that they would not be licensed if they did arrive. These vehicles are horrible on the soil, and we do not need more run-off into the water. ATVs are like land jet skis. I say keep 'em in Florida.

Well considering you all live on this beautiful island and don't want these verhicles on your island I respect and understand. Coming from Canada we use these vehicles to get around alot in the winter months and people of all ages enjoy using them to go 4x4ing in all seasons. I did find one rental place in St.Thomas but defintley won't be island hoping so will have to find something else to do "on land" while visiting. Thanks for your help and comments.

With all due respect...feet are a wonderful gift from God and they do just fine on STJ. East Ender is correct that ATVs do a great deal of harm, especially in such a delicate area as USVI.
I realize Canada has a great deal more land to cover. We have plenty of them in Texas as well.

Of course, that might be one of the reasons I like to get away to STJ so much 🙂

I live in rural southern illinois and ORV's (off-road vehicles, which include ATVs, dirt bikes, etc) are popular here. It's to bad that the drivers of OFF-road vehicles haven't figured out that OFF-ROAD means exactly that! I'm a 52-year-old mototcyclist and have a Kawasaki KLR 250 street and trail bike. I had to pass a written AND a road test to get my motorcyce license. The neighbor's son is 11 years old and has a Kawasaki 650 ATV. And he rides in the road just like me! And his bike is more powerful than mine. I've almost killed him several times as I'm on my way home from work and he suddenly pulls out of the driveway right in front of me to ride down the street on his "circuit". His parents don't have a problem with his driving. It's MY fault that I happened to get in HIS way!

We have some people like that here in Ontario as well. Both my kids are very responsible riders and ride "off-road" only!!! We have dedicated trails up here and you are required to purchase a trail pass to use them. They can be a lot of fun if used properly.

Tanya: I really didn't want to get in a tussle! 😉 But sometimes a technology that is good in one place (eg flat Canada with no run off into coral reefs) is bad in another (Hilly tropical island with run off problem.)

I like plastic straws, too, but don't think they should ever have been imported here!! They lay on the beach, not decomposing for a LONG time!

Do you mind if I ask where you found a rental place for them on St thomas??
