We are traveling to St John in 17 days for the first time and would like to know if ATM's are readily available on St John.

Not readily available - but there are a few 🙂
2 at the First Bank in Cruz Bay, 1 in Mongoose although not always working, 1 (maybe 2) at the Marketplace at Scotia Bank. These are the ones that immediatley come to mind.

Last time I was there there was one at Dolphin. In Coral Bay there was one at Love City, although zI'm not sure that it's always up and running.
Am I to understand that most banks have atms?
Yes, they do. But only two banks in STJ!

PS I think there is one at Caneel and should be one at The Westin. Have also seen one at the fire station in Coral Bay.

Most places like grocers and restaurants take credit cards/debit cards, correct?
Most do, som don't. If you are unsure, ask before you are seated.
