are there any laws ?
You can fish along the beaches as long as there aren't any swimmers around. I think some of the more popular beaches like meagens and trunk have rules against it but most don't and you don't need any kind of license. I brought a travel spinning rod and caught some barracuda and other fish last year. There are a lot of tarpon in the meagans bay area if you can get away from the crowds and wet a line
thanks i wanted to bring my gear but wasn't sure.
You cannot fish in the Great St James Marine Reserve which includes Nazareth Bay (Secret Harbour), Cowpet Bay (Elysian, Cowpet and Anchorage) and Great Bay (the Ritz.)
Why isn't fishing allowed in those areas?
Because its a Marine Reserve. Federally protected waters for spawning and habitat.
Please EAT everything you catch or throw it back. Our waters are being overfished.
What about Water Bay by Point Pleasant?
Likely much more than you wanted to know, but the VI Commercial and Recreational Fishers Booklet can be reviewed online in a pdf format at http://www.vifishandwildlife.com/Fisheries/FishingHandbook/FisherInfoBooklet2005to2006.pdf.
It covers area restrictions, protected species etc.
