My fiance' and I want to get married on Jost on April 1st. We'll be staying there from March 27-April 3. How do we start the process? the paperwork? Have we waited too long...is it still possible? PLEASE HELP!
i don't know the process but I do think getting married in a foreign country might be problematic IF (sorry) there is an unfortunate ending?
Pamela
I would think the best thing for you to do is look up this information on a sight for the BVI, I'm sure it is out there!
Otherwise, you could simply come to STT for a day and get married on a beach here. License has to be in the court at least 10 days in advance. Good luck!
Seriously? Not that I'm thinking our marriage will ever end, but... I've never heard of anything like that...A hassle to get a divorce if the marriage was performed in another country?
As this is a board for the USVI, I also suggest that you find a BVI expert. Perhaps the marriage license bureau in Roadtown? Best wishes to you:-).
Many, many, many, many years ago I was married in England and subsequently divorced in the USA and I don't recall any particular problem involved with having been married in one country and divorcing in another - but as far as actually getting married in the BVI as a US citizen you need to check with the BVI authorities on that.
google - 'bvi marriage license' -- very good info available - must be in the BVI 3 days in advance - costs $110 at 1 office and $100 at another [ if performed off site ] and a few other reasonable requirements but sounds easy enough --- good luck and good fortune.
