Looking for a long term 1 bed or studio apartment in St John or St Thomas by November 07. Price range : $1000/ +- $200. I have a dog that is 65lbs and great in the house and an outdoor cat. I have USVI contacts and great references.

You should post this on the VINow relocation forum and on the classified forum (top RH of this page which says, "otherr forum.") Hopefully you've already done a PMV?

On the relocation forum you should also do your homework and go through not only current posts but past posts about moving here in general, Moving with a dog and a cat is not going to be easy so do your research well.

Your "outside" cat will be very ill-prepared for a move here and your dog likewise unless you're really established.

Use the research engine on this forum.

Methinks an employer has offered you a deal? Just be careful, be very careful!
Cheers!

My situation is similar, coming in June (small dog,no cat) so I'm curious - what is meant by, "Be careful, be very careful"?

If you're going to visit, it's one way - if you're going to live there, it's another. The two could not be more diametrically opposite. All too many people chase a dream and then find out the dream has crashed.....and a lot chase the dream and find their rainbow. STT Res is trying to warn you to do your homework, make as long of a visit as you can if you intend to live there, and truly look past the beaches and the Painkillers. There's a whole 'nother world out there.

I certainly can see where the fantasy and reality of living on SST can be very different. Over the last six years I've been numerous times for a week at a time, staying on different parts of the island. I've been lucky enough to meet quite a few residents who have been willing to answer many of my questions. At this point I don't know that there is anything left to do but take the plunge and relocate if only for a number of months. I'm fortunate in having a profession that allows me to do this. The experience may not live up to my expectations and yes I know it's not good to have "expectations" but I'll ALWAYS regret not having the gumption to give it a try if I don't just do it. Thanks for your input. I visit this forum daily and it's a great source of information, as is the relocation board.

I am already living in the FL keys. I know it is not USVI, but at least I used to the pros and cons of island life and the lack of the mainland amenities.

I have to bring my dog- no question. I am moving for a job and school and not to run away from the states. I appreciate the heads up though.

Are there season passes for the interisland ferry? And I could not locate the otherr forum?
