Hello all.

Our family, including 11 & 15 y/o girls, is planning our "virgin trip" to the USVI, staying on St. John for a week in July. While we want most of our days to be just exploring STJ, beaching and snorkeling, I am giving serious thought to a day trip to either The Baths or JVD or Tortola, and thinking that a day long sail might be great. I know sailing would allow us to do only one of those destinations in a full day . I'd love to hear your thoughts about:

Has anyone sailed with White Wing?
Is there another saiing operation you'd recommend?
If we go to The Baths as the farthest point, should that be a motorboat trip?

Thanks in advance for your input! This is such a great board to read because you are all so helpful!

White Wing is fabulous 🙂 but I would call him as I have heard that he is not taking any new customers out but then again it might be one of those island rumors 🙂

Either way, should you decide to go to the baths you would need a power boat as it takes (by power boat) approx 1 1/2 hours each way.

Have fun

Pia

We tried to go with Clark in 2006, but he was building a house and our party was too small to make it worth his time...so he recommended Rick and Robin Gallup of Long Distance:

They prefer to stay in USVI waters, though, because customs has become quite a hassle. The snorkeling and sailing we did with them was wonderful - beautiful and peaceful. We went to Flanagan Island, just out of Coral Bay, and Newfound Bay, on the north side of the East End (I don't believe it is reachable by car). I highly recommend them. But, they said they were going to be spending their summers in the States, so I'm not sure if they'll be there in July (their plans may have changed since I talked to them 2 years ago!).

As for a BVI trip, it seems like most of those trips are on power boats (esp. The Baths bc Virgin Gorda is so far away).

Have a great time!

Definitely book the White Wing. We have sailed 3x with Captain Clark and he is the best. I have previously wrote a couple reviews about our sails. You should be able to search for them on this website. Sailing to the BVIs on the White Wing is a great experience. You will absolutely love the boat and you will get your money's worth......Clark is in no hurry to get you back like some others tours we have taken. He is very knowledgeable about the islands and makes the best turkey and cheese sandwiches in the VIs!!!

I'll get in touch with Clark soon...and I'll hope he is in the VI this summer and will accept a new client!
Thank you all for your input.

Clark heads to Maine in the summer, so even if he were taking new charters, you would be out of luck.

By all means, still contact him, but be prepared to have him refer you to someone else.

I just heard back and they are gone for the summer...oh well...everyone deserves a break.

We decided we still want to sail for the day, focus on JVD, so any recommendations welcome.
