OK, it's official! The snowy northeast has totally driven me over the edge. I desire to move back my beloved USVI, where I resided and operated my public relations, marketing, business development consulting business for 11 years from 1991-2002. But I'd need to establish some kind of work /income to pave the way for my return. Anybody have any ideas? You can visit my website at www.priscopr.com (and also my social website at www.happinessclub.ning.com) to learn more about me. So, anybody looking for my kind of services, or know something who could use my kind of services, or even somebody looking for a seasoned professional like myself to work p/t or f/t for them, could you send them my way before I freeze to death here in cold new england. Priscilla Lynn, physically residing in USA but with heart still in the US Virgin Islands.8-)

You have a great resume, and I know this is not the type of work you are looking for, but you could always go to Maho and be a 4-hour worker. It would at leat give you a place to stay while you are looking for a real job.

Inasmuch as the VI economy lags behind the US economy by 12 to 24 months, you also need to know that our economy is on a major downturn right now and there's no end in sight.

We're right now seeing an influx of frequent visitors who booked their passage a year or so ago but after the end of this month the prospects look very dismal. Some visitors are taking advantage of the downturn and reduced air fares but the longterm is hazy at best, so be cautious where employment opportunities are concerned. Tourism dollars (and lack of) filter down bigtime and to all areas.

Running away from an intemperate climate needs to be seriously quantified where job opportunities are concerned. As you should know, finding a job here is very much dependent on your being here to present yourself in person and it's unlikely at even the best of times that a prospective employer will even look at your resume whether it's posted on a website or sent directly to them.

Reality here is very harsh where this very transient society is concerned. If you lived here from 91 - 02 then surely you made some good local contacts here in those 11 years?

Cheers!

Priscilla: You might want to check the Relocation message board (click above to the right.) It is aimed at people wanting to live in the VI! 🙂

You should join the Ad Club of the VI, and the Chamber of Commerce. You don't have to live here to join either, and it'll put your name out there now, so people will probably get the impression that you're here. Oh. And get a local address and phone using one of the many mailbox services here.

Hello: wow, I was impressed with your very thorough reply and suggestion. Is this from Brian Squires of Austin Advertising? Yes, I still have some contacts, but I wanted to see if I dropped the hook what might bite. And talk about economy 'tanking', hey the USA is right there, too. Listen, even Hurricane Marilyn couldn't knock me out of business completely. My work there before did not rely on the tourism economy, but rather the local commerce, that's what I'd return to pursue. And, actually, I wouldn't be so much "running away" from the intemperate climate, but rather "running back" to my beloved islands. Yes, I know, I know, show face is important when pursuing work. But what you don't know is that's how I got there in 1991 - a stateside business person hired me and sent me down for a one year contract. Well, that ended 16 months later but I remained for another 9 years thereafter. Big mistake returning to the USA - I'd rather struggle in paradise anyday! So, whomever you are, author, thanks for your thoughts and if you want to keep in touch 1-on-1, I am at [email protected]

Hello and thanks for the reply and suggestions. Ironically I used to belong and be an active member of the Ad Club of the Virgin Islands and both STT and STX Chambers. Thanks, and somebody should tell the Ad Club they need to update their website! Write me at [email protected] if you want to keep in touch that way. snowbound still Priscilla

I know the Galleon House Hotel may potentially be looking for someone to work in exchange for rent. I would send them your info and ask them what's up. [email protected]
