The place still isn't close to being done. Did they cancel on you?
This has all gotten pretty messy, but I doubt that it's that unusual. It's just that these Bongo guys are putting it out in plain view. A major factor in the story is the choice of a property management company. A previous poster, who also built on STJ, mentions that their management company did not recommend that the house be advertised or booked until it was actually finished. Looks like Carefree Getaways operates differently.
I had the very first reservation at Bongo Bongo from April 29 to May 6, and of course I was the first canceled. I can tell you first hand that the guys building Bongo Bongo did not intend to screw up anyone's plans. They were advised by the builder on numerous occasions that the absolute latest completion date would be December 05. I'm certain that they would rather be back in D.C. collecting rent checks, rather than supervising a 6-month late, over-budget construction project.
That being said, I was not thrilled with the way Carefree handled the cancellation. I was offered only one other villa, which had no pool and no A/C. I worked with another agency, and ultimately found a great place above Cruz Bay with ice-cold A/C, a pool, and a hot tub.
The guys at Bongo Bongo have offered me a significant discount for a future stay, and I intend to take them up on it.
Read the "Bongo Bongo" blog.........now I'm very happy, I bought a condo on island and just enjoy it whenever we have the urge.
Those two guys are amazing to deal with all that was dealt......Best wishes to them and the guests.
